Thanks McGrandpa. I don't think we ever got to know each other before I had to leave but I was a member here about 15 years ago.

I have Bryce 7.1, which is the last version produced, and that was over 10 years ago.

There was a large community of Bryce users, of which I was a part, and it included some rather big names in the business. My mentor in Bryce and Wings3D was David Brinnen. He's still around, but he has not made any new tutorials for either app and uploaded to YouTube in years, so far as I can determine. It does bear mentioning that the ones he did make are quite numerous, and some of the for Wings3D were at my request. He has a way of figuring out how to use the provided tools in unusual ways that give awesome results. Most of what I know about Bryce is knowledge I gained from him. He is a great friend to this day.

Now a lot of his tutorials still exist on YouTube, so if you want to learn something new about the programs he does tutorials for, I can suggest no better than David Brinnen's channel. Check him out!

Good morning guys!
It's Fall back here :tearlaugh:

Concerning Bryce, even with my old Vista I had not bad renders, and yet I wasn't touching the program regularly. But at the end, my use from Bryce was more to create objects than making renders. That was before I try Hexagon, then discovered Wings3d.

I think it can depend on what 3D app you are using for your render as well. Each of the ones I have use certain render engines by default. As for how water renders in most of them? Well I've tried mostly in just two. DAZ Studio and Bryce. DAZ Studio is a 64 bit app on my PC, while Bryce is only a 32 bit app, and can you guess which one has the most realistic water? Well if DAZ Studio could run the Iray engine on my weak machine, the water might look good, but I can only run 3Delight to render in DAZ Studio. But Bryce has it right, rendering lake, ocean and sea scenes with relative ease. Of course there's gonna be a time length of hours for many of the renders, but it gets it done. What's more is that I can tweak the render settings to make the render look even better; plus there are settings in the Materials Lab for refraction, reflection, transparency, and so much more. Now for a 32 bit app, that's gotta be awesome, don't you think?

Yup.  I'd love to say that some machines we run don't even care.   You just spend your time setting up the scene, click the Render In Background button and THWIP! it's done already.   Unfortunately, BadMoonRYZEN is not a CRAY super computer.   That THWIP! might be anywhere from 20 seconds to two hours, depending mostly on scene complexity and render size.   I never used this rig for an HDRI lit scene, though having more than 20 V4's in the scene at one time did take a couple minutes!    Um, WATER, with AO and render backfacing polys ON will stomp you down in a big hurry with either or both atmospherics and volumetrics on.   Even the baddest CPU/GPU desktop combos take a hit with that stuff.   Did that by accident recently.  Saw the projected render time was in DAYS, not hours.  Stopped that in a jiffy!  Whew!   Even with an octal core 64 gigs ram rig.
