I do a standard sort when I download as in by year and when I transfer them to my Poser computer (Stormbringer) I have a separate folder based on the date of transfer.

So in other words I may have multiple items picked up or purchased over a month long period but when I transfer them I use the date of the transfer to identify it.

Yes indeed....that has been a problem a time or two LOL...

Yes but the problem with "year by year" is when you have stuff from years ago which is suddenly free on another site. Look TrekkieGrrrl justly. Or LaurieA, or Rowen54, or several others like that. Either they close their sites (or were on Yurdigital or RDNA), either they decide it's good to show also on 'big' sites, or they just when to show from S to Renderosity and conversely 
And I don't count when they change more or less the name of their freebies

At the beginning I just put all freebies on the same folder, except when I was hurried. You haven't idea sometimes like I'm astonished to find some of them in weird places of external 

But for those sorted? First I made by characters. Then it must be 2 years ago only, I decided to sort by creator. ANd I haven't ended to sort  But with disappearance of RDNA I made an effort, and each Halloween and Christmas times I do that now also.

I have one of the externals set up that way Aelin....by creator....but since I download from 3 different devices, they only get sorted out at the end of the year unless I happen to be using the computer that has the external that has the folders.  All others go into a "TO BE SORTED" file with the year dated.  I still have "TO BE SORTED" file folders dating back to 2010    ....  But on a good note....all the files before then HAVE BEEN SORTED....wooohooo

We do need to sort the collection out though properly and then back them up properly.
