I was mostly a FORD man, most of my early life.  My first car, that *I* bought with my own cash money I was paid off that first patrol, was a 1965 Galaxie 500.  White top over metallic Mint Green body.  4 door, 4 bbl carb, dual exhaust, 352 ci split head big block, cast iron Cruiseamatic tranny.  Basically your run of the mill family car of the day.   But it was MY car!  I bought a set of chrome reverse rims, 6" x 15" normal on front, 10"
x 15" on back and a lovely new set of Firestone all-weather tires all around.  Put nice looking peel n stick carpet tiles on the sun deck back of rear seat.  Armor All'ed the interior real good.  Slapped ye olde Charlie Golf bumper stickers with active numbers front n rear.  So I could drive onto military bases.  And keep it in the locked parking lot on base when we were on patrol.   I tell ya, I truly miss the roominess of those old cars.  The full width bench seats!   Almost a motel room on wheels!    I drove it from East Coast to Houston and back several times.  It ended up in a junk yard in Baltimore.   Then I flew home when I got out.  Ya don't see too many 65's around these days.

Hey PDG, I remember getting interested in CARS! when a MAD Magazine had a cool funny on the 69 "HEMI Under Glass" bass-ackward Barracuda, which they DID coin/abbreviate to just 'CUDA!   Yes, MAD Magazine's writers did that!   That was the comic version where the rear was the front, the big hairy arm stuck out the roof with the HURST shifter and the side pipes belched fireballs.  Black n White inked only of course.  But it was YOUR Barracuda that I found so cool, and yeah plenty of folks noticed the semblance to the Valiant.  Even mentioned that in that chapter of the comic :D
I have to apologize to Hipshot. It was brought to my attention that in the States, they did indeed use the 'Cuda moniker on notchback Barracudas in 1969. Don't know that particular issue of Mad though I read a whole heck of a lot of 'em. Cracked was another one I read a lot of back then.

Good morning guys!
It's a rainy day for the labor day here. Like almost each year :tearlaugh:
May Day. Forgot about that. We don't do May 1 over here and Labour Day is the first Monday in September. Enjoy your holiday.

My mom swore that her Fairlane 500 was the best piece of machinery ever made. She bought 2 replacements over the years till the vehicle went out of production. She swapped to a '71 Caddy and drove that till she passed in the early '80's.

Look at the back window of the Barracuda. The space under it had a divider which could be opened up to the trunk and the back seat folds down opening up a space you can put a 4x8 sheet of plywood. Used to lay a sleeping bag in it and back into drive-in movies. Lay flat with your "friend" to "watch" the film. Got kicked out one night because the car was facing the wrong way. Fools.

Accepted, PDG.  I also remembered the MAD and Cracked comics.  Hell, me and my friends use to call it the "Baccaruda", rather than the Barracuda.  Either way, it was a nice set of wheels.  Loved it.  Still wasn't able to get one.  None in area whilst transferring to Ft Bliss from Korea.  Had to settle for Datsun.  Cheaper, by the way.  I guess all of the 'Cudas that had around headed for Cali.  Oh well.
Hipshot

Right, 'ere we go.  Roll cross country and go through the ditch . . . fire main gun to look . . . Oooops.  Is it supposed to do that?
