Thanks McGrandpa. I don't think we ever got to know each other before I had to leave but I was a member here about 15 years ago.

The 'corse downed woody debris' is great for lightening strikes or careless people to start fires and with old trees that are either dying or dead that are not thinned out is a recipe for a big fire.

Here is a website that explains the habitat of the Spotted Owl and why California don't want to clean up the forest.

https://www.fws.gov/sacramento/es_species/Accounts/Birds/ca_spotted_owl/

HABITAT

"California spotted owls generally inhabit older forests that contain structural characteristics necessary for nesting, roosting, and foraging. Nests are typically found in areas of high canopy cover, with a multi-layered canopy, old decadent trees, a high number of large trees, and coarse downed woody debris. Within an owl territory, spatial heterogeneity to some degree is important for foraging habitat. About ¾ of known California spotted owl locations are on public lands (e.g., National Forests), with the remaining on private timberlands."

:lostme:  The Same California that sued for 35 years to keep the forest service from doing the fire prevention?

Fafnir

hope some of the  spotted owls  survive  and yes they need to clean up the forest and underbrush  might  be  safer  for them  people too

Good Evening,

With California burning down, the air here is not that good.  We had a day with the smoke where the whole valley was unhealthy or hazardous on Saturday, moderate on Sunday, felt like sleeping those days and I did most of these two days. Today wasn't that bad, but you can see that the air quality is not as it should be looking at the mountains.  I see it that the smoke made it all the way out to Wisconsin too from these fires out west.  I think by now with all these fire that Spotted Owl is no longer with us. (use mandate for Spotted Owl  to not clean up the forest and underbrush in California)  Maybe California will clean up their forests and thin the trees and cut new fire breaks so that we have safer forests for man and beast out there.

Hope everyone is doing well.

Say "J".....Since your off for a bit why don't you pack up and go on a Road Trip.....Got just the thing for you to go see....it's only a 12 or 13 hour drive...if traffic is light....

thelufias

Yup.....  We needed the rain so I didn't mind that...but the least they could do is get the days right and never mind trying to tell us at what HOUR the storm/rain/winds will start LOLOL.....

Hipshot

Yeah.  The way the weather weenies go, its always promises, promises.  Even when they get it right, they can still be wrong.  They've been promising rain here for the last couple of weeks, and what do we get . . . maybe an hour or so of rain.  And that's spread over several days. :whattodo:
Hipshot

Right, 'ere we go.  Roll cross country and go through the ditch . . . fire main gun to look . . . Oooops.  Is it supposed to do that?

thelufias

See you sometime tomorrow Aelin......ENJOY
