Thanks McGrandpa. I don't think we ever got to know each other before I had to leave but I was a member here about 15 years ago.

Yeah Radkres!   Thanks for that smile this morning :D   That Garret Trooper is sompin ain't he!?     [ . . . and a little bitty one, it's called a Combination-flare-gun-dinner-settin-genuine-police-whistle!]I loved that song man!  LOL!

McGrandpa

Hey HipShot....kinda tough gettin inside a Tank when you're surrounded by a few hundred feet of Ship!  ;o) :thud:

McGrandpa

Thanks for the memories, Rad man!   I was just a kid WHEN (I hope I don't come off hated by anyone!)  (cause I sure din't know squat!) John Wayne was in the film "The Green Beret, and Sgt. B. Saddler actually recorded that song he wrote, The Green Beret.   The album meant more to me than my family ever knew.  What I got from that musics lyrics is why I enlisted later, in 72.  Though Pops service in the Charlie Golf IS why I chose that branch.  But don't y'all tell HIM that, ok?  His urn might swell up and pop open!  ;)   SO.   I dunno which guy did their thing first or what, but I totally bit into both.   I  ran around the house for a year singing (to everyones horror) my lungs out, several of the songs from that album.
Never got inside a tank, though I sure wanted to.   This towns Military Museum now has an F4 Phantom II, an F-5 Thunderchief (THUD!), a newly restored M60 TANK, a UH-1a Iroquois (HUEY!), what's left of a Charlie Golf's Super Sea Stallion, a 95% flight ready B-25 Mitchell,  a self propelled GUN of damnably BIG barrel size, a FORD Jeep, a Studebaker JEEP and even a JEEP Jeep.  Plus a few other motorized units.   OH and a genuine replica Little Boy.   That is just the yards around the museum building itself.  Pretty crowded yards!   With all that, they might even let me peek inside the motorized units and Mitchell.  Heh!  :D

Hipshot

Ah yes, Rad.  Barry Sadler.  Hell of a soldier.  Not to mention writer.  I still have most of his Casca: the Eternal Mercenary series in storage.  Hope to get into it to see what I can find when the weather cools down a bit more.  Brought the entire shebang up from Ruidoso a few months back.  Had to spend the bulk of the time up there hiding in my hotel room as the altitude and I - COPD, curse the luck - just did not get along.
Hipshot

Right, 'ere we go.  Roll cross country and go through the ditch . . . fire main gun to look . . . Oooops.  Is it supposed to do that?

Hipshot

Yeah Nosh.  I have run into such assholes before.  I love the ones who were tankers and attempt to tell me all about what they can do with a tank.  An M1. . . a newbie.  Didn't have to the heart to tell him that I had been on . . . and off the M60 series before he was more than just a gleam in his daddy's eye.  Not to mention a few armored vehicles in service he had negative knowledge of.  It's bad when you're at a display of army vehicles and one breaks down and has to be recovered.  An M60A1.  I think it had some problem with the diesel filters and couldn't keep it running.  Anyway, this youngun  tries to tell the even more younguns - those that are still wearing the issued cammies - how top recover said disabled vehicle via dragon wagon.  Like I said, newbies.  Only trained, not recovered a dead vehicle real world.  Between them, they almost let the tank run backwards off the road.  (no one in the driver's seat)  Not to mention coming all to close to renovating a barn full of horses.   :thud:
:lostme:
Not wanting to see anyone get injured or killed, I stepped in.  Told that stupid sombitch to shut the hell up and stand aside.  (Helps to have run more than one PT class for my platoon while in service).  Finally got the dragon properly lined up and the cables run.  Crossed, not straight so you can steer it on board.  Then, once you got it on the trailer. you straighten out the cables and pull it on in.  Get the brakes locked, and properly chocked down and you can be on your way.

You could almost hear the jaws bouncing off the ground as the lads secured the loading ramps.
Looked around for the big mouthed one with so little knowledge, but he had left the area. :whattodo:

Obviously I do not watch enough or any for that matter commercial TV no wonder I was clueless as to whom she was, makes sense now.

Markie Post, who did the whole Night Court thing, did her best and cutest on The Fall Guy (the bounty hunter, remember?) and also some episodes on Buck Rogers In The Twenty Fifth Century!  She had been fighting cancer for years, and didn't share that bad stuff.  One of the rarest of people, a truly good person.  And for years, all they could find for her to wear was bathing suits!   She was at home, and passed peacefully at age 70.   Sleep well Markie.   We'll all be along soon.
