I'd have to agree with you Wizzard. Name calling has become a "THING" of late starting from the top down. But it's nothing new. All through out history it's been that way. And others will follow....
NAME CALLING IN THE POLITICAL REALM
1."Subhuman" and "Disgusting"
Politicos routinely dehumanize their opponents. Whether the phrase is "subhuman mongrel", "œtroglodyte", "Neanderthals", or even "pigs in a blanket", the suggestion is that the target is less than a person. Such language suggests that they can be treated with less than the respect that people deserve.
A variant of this is describing people as disgusting, as something foul that should be scraped up and thrown away. Good examples are the way Democrats and Republicans are called Scum of the Earth, and the way politicians frequently refers to their opponents as puke.
Unfortunately, there are cases where after being denigrated as something less than human that should be thrown away some people have been treated as exactly that.
2. Straw Men and Caricatures
Maybe the most common thing that politicos do is misrepresent their opponents political views. If you take someone's reasonable position "We're spending too much money on roads“ and twist it just a touch “They believe we shouldn't spend any money on roads!“ you can make them seem ridiculous.
But, since you've falsified what your opponent believes, you're really just refuting a fake position; that is, knocking over a straw man.
While the slew of political fact-checkers out there are of some help in fighting these caricatures, even they can't keep up with the volume. We all just have to be eternally vigilant.
3."Evil" and/or "Stupid"
It's frustrating when we believe something strongly as with political and moral issues and then run into someone who disagrees with us. We typically resort to one of two derisive explanations for their divergent opinion.
The first is to conclude that they must be ignorant of what's right. But, since the truth is just so obvious (to us, anyway), our language has to capture the depth of their ignorance: they're "divorced from reality", "morons", "brain-dead" or "delusional." In other words, we slur them as being mentally deficient.
The second is to conclude that they're smart enough to know what's right, but that they choose to do what they know is wrong. In other words, we demonize them: we say they want to destroy the world (or maybe just the country); that they don't believe in helping others in need; that they don't want other people to be free, and so forth. There are any number of ways to (falsely) describe people as choosing to do evil.
Some pundits, however, don't feel the need to choose between these two explanations: they say their opponents are both evil and stupid.
4. "They Don't Care About Facts, Reason, Logic, or Truth"
But there's a more finessed way to accuse your political opponents of being both stupid and evil: accuse them of choosing stupidity in the name of evil.
For example, politicos often say that "facts don't matter" to their opponents; they stick to a position "regardless of evidence;" they're living in a "fact-free zone;" they're "anti-science, anti-factual," etc. Others go further, saying their opponents have adopted the "big lie" theory of the Nazis, where the more you repeat a lie, the more plausible it becomes.
Funnily enough, neither Adolf Hitler nor Joseph Goebbels ever advocated using a "big lie"; rather, they accused other people of using big lies against them. Ironic, huh?
5. Unpatriotic
Politics is concerned with the well-being of the nation. So, naturally, one of the preferred ways of demonizing opponents is to accuse them of siding against the country.
There are plenty of ways to question someone's patriotism: call them "unpatriotic" or "anti-American"; accuse them of wanting to weaken the country, or refusing to defend it; praise the "real" parts of America (as opposed to the fake ones); suggest that they put party before country. "Treason," "traitorous," and "betray" are also words that serve the purpose, along with the ubiquitous "take back America" campaign slogan.
Questioning someone's citizenship or deriding them for their immigrant status could also count as questioning someone's patriotism, but it's not like that would happen in an election year, would it?
Conclusion
Name-calling runs rampant in U.S. politics, and it's hardly limited to one side of the political spectrum. The more we denigrate each other as evil or unpatriotic, the less prepared we're going to be for those moments of crisis when, all of a sudden, we need to trust and depend on each other.
Politics should make us better people, not worse. When you hear this kind of rhetoric, head the other direction.

I get a kick out of the governor of California stating children are not allowed to go door to door trick or treating on Halloween and I just saw an interview with a local politician saying he and his people have gone around the last couple of weeks knocking on about 35,000 doors to get the word out on his campaign. He was not the first I heard admit to this.

We heard first children were the worse to give covid. Then they weren't carriers. Now, it's back to the time where children are "monsters" :shrug:
Because of lockdown since today (and I'll pass on the many contradictions of french government here), children who celebrate Halloween here won't be able to do it too.

My newest problem is that I have found it increasingly difficult to breath or talk properly through a mask up over my nose or even over my mouth.
Yeah, yeah it is useless unless you do so, it is to protect me from you and vice versa ... well whom is being protected and from what if one is not capable of breathing through a mask. I certainly no longer feel safe since I cannot breath properly, just call a ambulance now jack leg.
This has been creeping up on m e slowly for some little time that it took this long to realize what the problem is, and yes I am out of breath, wheezing and the whole nine yards when forced to wear that damn thing.
Just noticed yesterday that under exertion without a mask I found myself short of breath ... not a good feeling
And the idiot at work thinks I am faking because I do not want to work on the cruise ship, due to the fact one will be required to wear not only a mask, but a face shield, gloves and a suit ... seriously what the hell do I have the Black Death
Makes me wonder about my sleeping habits now as if they are truly interrupted by tinnitus or just restricted breathing. Because the longer I think about it the further back the symptoms are recalled.
Which makes one suspect the medical industry with capital letters. One would have thought something would have come out during a physical, but I guess the slow and subtle progress of anything is missed every time.

Since I have to wear mask in shops, or when at job, I have the nose running.
Here, I must tell before I start to eat organic, 9 months on 12 I was with nose like that. Since 2010 I was free of that...
I have a discomfort in the throat, like a ball during several hours after I wear one.
I can't breath correctly in shops (I exit my nose in the streets, no matter the orders here) and guess what? I pull on the mask to obtain air.
People with things in the throat (from a old tracheotomy) can't use the mask.
Same with several advanced asthmatic people.
I know a person who after 15 minutes with mask is fainting.
And why during many many years, in Asia, the ill people wear the masks when they had flu, but sane people hadn't to wear them? Why suddenly everyone has to wear a such mess?
Sorry, nothing makes sense to me in that story.

Yeah Jherr, COPD is so much fun in a masked world. If everyone, not out for a Darwin award, wears a mask, then the contenders can be seen clearly.
The most fun is whilst shopping, local decided to lower the number of open registers, resulting in congestion. Hard to maintain distance with a cart pushing into your back. Painful too.

You know what is comical.
California is the most locked down and restricted state in the nation and home of many business closures. One closure parents and teachers have been fighting for months is to get the schools reopened. They have cited a rise in drug abuse and suicides by students and family hard ships. Parents can't work as someone needs to stay home with the kids. Now that they are finally making progress and the soon to be recalled governor is starting to announce school reopening ( after recall petition reached 1.8 million signatures). The teachers union is saying the teachers will not return until they receive the covid vaccine. The teachers where on the list for May or June.
Also the governors order of vaccinations list does not consider the police as an essential or first respondent and where scheduled for vaccination after the teachers original time frame.

To hear from politics, covid is so virulent that many have been in contact with it. Meaning if it's the case, you have antibodies like for any illness you crossed before - and I remind to everyone, all the other illness are mutating too with time. So those people don't need vaccine :shrug:

During Summer time, it's a difference of 2 hours with the sun.

My bedroom has two large windows facing the sunrise. Sun rise was 7:09 this Am and the room brightened a short time later. This is good if you wish to sleep in.
Tomorrow the sun will rise at 6:09 AM and the room will brighten earlier. If I had a vote I would leave the time change alone.
Wait.... we did vote in 2018 passed a proposition by 62% to stay with daylight saving time, it stalled in the state senate vote and if it ever does pass it will then it will go to the federal government for approval.

A government that dose not think things through, cutting off the oil supply so they can buy it somewhere else but no one want to sell oil to us, plus other things which drive inflation (like more spending bills). So the government will continue to spend money they don't have, so your great grandchildren's children's children will have to pay for the incompetence.

LOL. Still waiting for election result here in Nowhere Nevada. I guess they use their finger and toes to count ballet and when they reach 20 they put down a tally mark. However there is more than twenty of these tally marks, and they just can't count pass 20 or for dealer they can't count pass 21. Maybe sometime before I die they will announce the winner of the elections out here. :odd:

That last Presidential election seem rather strange compared to others, but that is water under the bridge now, what ever the people in power do about it is up to them.
It seem like Republican need to start campaigning earlier if they want to get ahead of the early voting and mail in ballets nowadays. It seems that the Democrats get ahead by starting out earlier in the summer time than the Republicans. It is important to understand and use media outlets that are open to candidates to effectively campaign at all levels of media to get their message out to the people way before the voting begins. I believe this would create a more balance playing field, even though some media like television news, news papers and website are rather prejudge toward the conservatives.

The Republican usually start in August to campaign, but the Democrats start even earlier in late June there is an advantage to it as we saw in this election. I did not think there would be a red wave, but would be a majority of house and senate for Republicans after this election cycle. We are still waiting for the results of this election here for senator.
As for mail in ballets I do agree that it can be manipulated by so called being misplace or worst when it get to the people who are responsible for taking in the ballets.
Our way of voting was change at the start of the Pandemic and was done on a weekend before anyone was informed about it only a handful of elected representatives of the state was there and just enough to pass new voting laws in before the presidential election. It was legal but underhanded, and a lot of strange things happen during that election. Now everyone who votes gets a mail in ballet.
I am glad we now have a new Governor of our State. Hopefully he will do something to straighten out the way we vote here.

The method in which they allow votes to be cast and counted still leaves a lot to be desired as demonstrated these past couple of elections.
I still and will continue to vote n person typically during the early voting period, although I do have concerns about how accurately they are tallied but it is certainly better in my mind they relying on the mail system as you mentioned.
