You two were running around Norfolk, VA Beach, Hampton Roads, Little Creek same time I was.   Gee.  Small world!   Weird we never met up!  Could have had fun!  :D

Pop was stationed at NOB, then just before he retired from the Navy, he was stationed at Cheatam Annex. He retired in April of 1975. I was 17. Before being stationed at NOB, he was stationed at the Charleston SC Naval Base, and before that he was at NOB for his first stationing. He served in the Cuban Missile Crisis, aboard one of the Stockade Destroyers. He served in the Philippines, Japan, Puerto Rico, the Mediterranean Sea, etc..... When you are Career Navy like Pop was, you serve in many areas of the world. Pop's Navy career was 21 years and seven months. He even had a chance once to get an old Captain's Gig for personal use.

A question here for all of you military types: in which of the US Armed Services is there a position in which the holder of that position is the only one that can salute with the left hand, and what is that position called? I know the answer, but I wish to see if anybody else here knows it. Hint: the left handed salute is only allowed during a certain type of occurrence, because of what is being done with the right hand at the same time.

Only the Navy and Marines can as far as I know...but only in certain circumstances...

But....Boatswain’s Mates are authorized to salute with their left hand when piping a senior officer aboard a ship in either the Navy and Coast Guard.

You are correct, except the Marines have no Pipers, thus do not practice the procedures. The Navy and Coast Guard do, and yes it's called Boatswain's Mate, aka Bosun's Mate. Pop was one from early on in his Navy career. I watched him Pipe high ranking officers aboard many of the ships he served aboard. On the day cruise aboard the USS Newport News, he Piped the Captain and several dignitaries aboard. I was enthralled!

Great start to the day...temp was 59 when I got up...And very little humidity today...It's now 70 degrees (Thank you Mr. Sunshine)  and I just cracked the windows open for the Furry Tribe...Feels good.

No surprises on our election day yesterday.  All those that were predicted to win, won...Unfortunately.  Oh well....I did my part....

Hope all have a great day.  I'll be in and out of here.  Training the Daughter how to use Office for her new "At Home Job" for Colony Brands...which includes Ginny's, Montgomery Wards, Swiss Colony, Midnight Velvet, Seventh Avenue, Monroe & Main, Country Door, The Tender Filet, Ashro, and The Wisconsin Cheeseman.  As mentioned before...The Swiss Colony is the dominate local business in Monroe....
