Adobe Illustrator CS3 Tip - A Stroke of Genius

In a previous tip, I mentioned that you can create an object with multiple Strokes using the Appearance panel, but I neglected to say how to do this.

I got an email from a friend today asking me to stop teasing readers with parts of tips. So, in response,

Here's how you create an object with multiple Strokes.

Select an object, such as an oval or a rectangle and apply a Black Stroke in the Swatches panel. Then in the Stroke panel make its Weight 4 points.

Next open the Appearance panel (Window>Appearance) if it's no already open, and click on the Stroke listing to select it.

Press the Duplicate Selected Item button at the bottom of the panel, then press it again to create two new Strokes.

Then select the next Stroke listing down and change its Weight to 8 points in the Strokes panel. And change the Stroke color to Red in the Swatches panel.

Click on the bottom Stroke listing in the Appearance panel, and change its Weight to 12 points in the Stroke panel and Voila!

You have a single object with very cool multiple Strokes.
