Using Base Directories
« on: August 13, 2022, 03:35:37 AM »
Base Directories in Daz Studio are useful for content creation and testing.

What is a Base Directory

A Base directory is a separate library that can be used to have the set separate from other libraries like for creating new content or testing content (can easily removed later).

Create a Base Directory

An easy and fast way to create a Base Directory:
  • Select the Content Library tab.
  • Right click on Daz Studio Formats. See image below.
  • Select Add a Base Directory from the popup menu. Add Base Directory
  • Select an existing folder or create a new directory where you want to have it.
  • Click on the Select Folder button.
Remove a Base Directory

To remove a Base Directory from the Daz Studio's Content Library:
  • Right click on the Base Directory that you want to remove.
  • Select Remove Base Directory from the popup menu.
The Base Directory is removed from the Daz Studio Content Library but not from the disk.

Content Creation

When you start with a new product:
  • Create a new Base Directory for the new product. Save always all your parts of this product in this Base Directory and at the end you have all together here.
  • Create the folder structure like runtime\textures\[Artist Name]\[Product Name] in this Base Directory.
  • Start with creating the product.
  • Put always the texture images etc. of this product in that texture folder.
  • Use for this product only the texture images from this texture folder.
  • Save your prop etc. in this Base Directory like Props\[Artist Name]\[Product Name]\[Prop Name]
  • When you are ready with it, zip the Base Directory content. All what is needed for it is in this Base Directory.

More about Base Directories

To have more control over the Base Directories you can go here: Edit -> Preferences... -> Content Tab -> Content Directory Manager button -> Content Directory Manager dialog.

It is possible to add and remove Base Directories also here in this dialog.
