Title: Conservation stuff in Wings 3D
Post by: Aelin on November 29, 2016, 02:51:17 PM
It's almost Christmas celebrations, and it's possible that your characters wish to drink their own creation! And a barrel is good to conserve this! :pervy:

So to begin, Right click => Sphere
Then select all the sphere and Right click => Scale uniform to have a bigger size.

Now, you do Right click => Tighten
And you do a move to "disminish" the size in x and z thanks to displacement of mouse. The shape of barrel is more or less pronounced, depends of your choice.

Unselect the object.
In any case you wish to change your mind on the "waist" of barrel, select the 2 lines of faces in the middle of object.
Then Right click => Scale Uniform

Just remember you Elves haven't same taste for drink than Dwarves!

Now, to make something of more round, select the 4 lines of middle, and click on S

Unselect faces.

Now, select 2 "circles" around the object, like in the first screen capture below.

Right click => Extract => Z
You have like 2 slices, all you need it's to removes central faces. Each slice has 2 faces to remove.
Right Click => Hole

Strapping is rarely "big".
Select each faces (manually, not with "I") of 2 circles. Circles aren't yet an independant object.
Right click => Extrude => Normal

Unselect them.

Now you have 3 objects in Wings 3D:
- heart of barrel
- top strapping
- low strapping

Select the 2 strappings completely (this time with the red square of top).
Right click => Move => Z
It's time to bring back them on the heart of barrel.
If necessary, click on Y before, to be at the vertical of barrel.

When its done, unselect.

Now it's necessary to work on "ends" of barrel.

Select top and down and Right click => Move => Z

Unselect, to select again 2 faces, those "inside" your slices. [second screen capture]
Like before Right click => Hole

Select one future cover manually [third screencapture]
Right click => Extrude => Y
Unselect, and do the same for the other, but of course in the other verticale side.

Unselect.

Select manually their equivalent on the barrel and remove them by Right click => Dissolve
When a face replace them, Right click => Hole

Unselect and select the "covers" to bring them back in the center.
Right click => Move => Z

Don't hesitate to be in Y/verticale angle.
To be sure the placement is good, you can hide temporarily circles.

If you are happy, select the 3 parts of "heart barrel" (the barrel and "covers"). And Right click => Combine

You have again to have a "bump" for wood planks. Each "cover" have normally faces insides to select like third screen capture.
Right click => Extrude => Normal

Unselect, and bring back to the view the circles.
Right click => Vertex color and choose one for circles.

Now, either you have done and you go to the last step directly (*)
Either you give now and not by texture more "bump".

If you take the last choice, you can hide again circles. And you select half of vertical edges [screen capture 2]. Could be took a moment.
Right click => Bevel
Keep the selection and Right click => Extrude => Normal to put a little inside the selectioned parts.
Unselect.

*
Select the barrel, and File => Export
Then by the Geometry graph window, hide barrel and unhide circles.
Select circles and Right click => Combine
File => Export

And to end, an exemplewithout texture in another program (here DS)

My pleasure!
Perhaps I'll made some packs the next year with my tests. All depends of time to texture them.
