Well since this morning I try to save a zip with a lot of files inside.
Does anybody know if it's possible, and which what free tool?
:ty:
-
What are you saving it to?
-
When I save a Zip all I do is "Cut" or "Copy" and then paste it in the destination folder.
I have some large zip files since I always .rar or .zip all of my backups for the site and then I save them in two places in case one place gets corrupted.....
And it's just a matter of cut and paste....

I think she's meaning recover - French is tricky.
Aelin, try WinRar with the option "keep broken files" enabled: in this way if there are only a few defective files all the rest might be recoverable.
-
It's a program, Howler.
I was sure I saved it on external and usb... but it's only on one usb key :panic: :hypno:
I tried on the 2 computers, in vain.
I see well it's supposed to be more than 39Mo (compressed size). But if I try to look inside, just look, I have also an error message.
-
LOL...Thanks Chiron. I thought she would know how to do the save trick...
But yes....winrar is the key. That's all I use anymore when zipping....

Does WinRar be free? I found only a 'to buy' version.

Try this, I keep using it since 2005 and if I remember right then it was free.
And let me look deeper in my PC, somewhere I might have Howler too...

I take it that this is a purchased version? Could it be named differently on the external? Or misplaced in a file folder? As careful as I am....I've done that a number of times....and it's always found in one folder above or below the one I intended to save the .rar to.
-
Found Howler 11.2b, about 90 MB.
PM me...

Yes it was a won version, the 9.2.
I know I can try the manual install (I kept the unzipped inside programs) but I have probably missing pieces. Already one dll. Probably more but it will tell me one by one  :tearlaugh:
I keeped the same name for the zip, and changed nothing.

My 4 eyes don't find "keep broken files" :lostme:
And when I try to 'open' with WinRAR, I have "unexpected end of archive"
I was always trying when writing the message. I found the option, and it's rebuilt.
But :sigh: "an unexpected error" message comes. I'll try again

Too new for me from 2 levels  :psycho:

Once I enter the code to unzip (and I'm sure it's the good code because I wrote it in several areas with the indication), it's always a problem:
- with usual unzip program (from Windows), I have "unexpected error" which prevents to copy the file.
- with WinRAR, I have "CRC failed in the encrypted file [...] (wrong password?)"
My best guess is the problem comes from the encrypted part of zip. The part asking the code to be unzipped :lostme:

Sorry, then I'm afraid I can't help you - as my version is regularly purchased I checked if I could download a previous one for free, but nothing doing.
But if the .dll's didn't change along the versions we could look in there for possibly missing parts. Let me know...

Alas, I fear not: the "unexpected end of archive" you got earlier usually means that a chunk is really missing. And a CRC error may mean several things, not necessarily that the password is wrong.
But what's wrong with a newer version?

Well it's not what I won.
(And I have noticed at my big shame I missed to say the even more basical thank you for WinRAR. So :ty: )
Concerning the password, I have tried in purpose after that with a wrong one. The difference is that time WinRar is categorical. The first thing it says is "wrong password for Howler".
With the good code, it's at the end of line, like a question "(wrong password?)"
So with the good password, it isn't sure it's the good or a bad password.
-
You're welcome :winks:
Yes, your experiment with the wrong password makes it all consistent: the question mark is there to tell that a wrong password is just one of the possible causes of the error.
As for Howler 11 not being exactly the one you won, I think that being unable to use a program you legitimately own is more wrong than using a borrowed replacement, no matter if newer or older. Think of it...
-
I agree with Chiron......
-
First I'll try my other option: look if I have somewhere the missing dll, and if it's a endless list of them.
If it's finally impossible, I'll be back toward you to say yay or nay.
-
I seem to recall winning a version of Howler also once I get home I will look into it and chime in with additional details.
-
Aelin, did you manage to recover it or are you still trying?
-
Since yesterday no, I hadn't time and I'm even not sure about tomorrow. Busy busy, more than expected  :tearlaugh:
