External runtimes pt 3
« on: June 20, 2011, 03:29:01 PM »
Well, now that you got everything sorted out by what ever logic and naming conventions work best for you, how do you get Poser to recognize them and allow access.

First step is simple open Poser and then go to the root directory of the runtime you will see two folders to start one name Poser 7 and the other Downloads.

Once again this information pertains to Poser 7 which is the current version I use, if you use an older or newer version some of the names might be different.

Anyway once you get to that point there at the bottom of the library window you have the "+" sign which when you hover over it gives you the pop up description "add runtime".
Click on it and then you get a window asking you to browse to the folder.
Navigate to where you have your Master folder of runtimes.
Select one and click OK.
Repeat till done.
The last step is to then click on the Edit toolbar and select General preferences from the drop down.
Select set preferred state and click OK
Now when you open Poser next time all of those beautiful runtimes will be present to select from, Poser will load slightly quicker as well, why because you have multiple runtimes spreading the size of it among them. When you open Poser instead of trying to load the previous massive runtime of 70+GB it is only the basic products in it. The external runtimes are all links it is not actually loading the runtime until you select it. So dependent upon your system you will see some performance improvements more then likely.

:ahhhh: I've got another problem :-(  Now, all of a sudden, when I go into poser, it is asking me for locations for all of Victoria's (the only one I've tried thus far) channels...Any idea as to why?

Do you have a remote control?  :java:

For some reason I bet that's not the answer.....   :peek:

Translate "channels" into Poser 7 terms.

Not certain what it is looking for...

You are loading Victoria from the default runtime and then you are going to the external Victoria runtime and loading clothing from there?

Not understanding why it would be asking for additional channels.

If i may... I think it's asking for the obj (geometry), or the textures (materials)... So you'll have to go on a "scavenger hunt" .

Did they rerun the Vicky 4 Batch file to update the channel calls in the Cr file?

Redkres...you hit the files...here is an example of what it is asking for 64-ps_pe070_DAZ_Chnnls which was found in ../libraries/!DAZ/Victoria4/bodyMorphs I had to supply the file for all 64 channels to load her.

I went through the process and found each one, and yes, FrawHawk, it was a scavenger hunt LOL...I did the update (I'm assuming that is what you were asking about Red) when I installed everything and yesterday, it all worked beautifully.  It was only today, after opening up Daz to start out a texture set, that I started having problems.  However, I don't have the link to the batch file updater to rerun it and I'm not sure where to find it after I deleted the link off my desktop.

It wasn't asking for additional channels, J, it was asking for the channels it needed to load when I tried to load Victoria at the outset of this session.

o.O Are You using DAZ Studio or Poser or Both?
Cause DAZ Studio requires you to copy the DAZ folder into the main Runtime/ Library Directory in DAZ. You will see a Folder called !DAZ in Your Vicky 4 Runtime Copy this to the DAZ Studio Directory under the Runtime/Library and see if that fixes it. o.O Is A pain to deal with DAZ and Poser.
