How to parent clothing or props
« on: September 27, 2012, 04:52:13 PM »
1. load your character figure like V4

2. take off the IK settings then pose her first, usually helps with dressing her but not needed to do this part right away

3. choose the outfit part to dress her in

4. when it appears on your screen go to upper menu and click on Figure > conform to then choose the character in the drop down menu > OK

5. It will apply to the figure, then Figure > Set Figure Parent > scroll to body part > click little arrow by body part > OK

Do that for each piece of clothing.

this is how to parent them, then choose the outfit part and adjust the actual fit to your character with the dials. Now when you move your character around or try a different post the outfit will go with it.

You can even parent a prop, sort of by first  for instance, select the head for a hair (the ones in the hair folder not character folder) , then choose the hair to apply it, then go under the properties tab next to parameters. Choose set parent > head > OK

now that is parented

Hmmm, all I ever do is "Conform to..." and pick the figure from the list - Victoria 4, Michael 4, etc. I believe that sets the Figure Parent for all the parts of the item of clothing just doing that.

Sometimes it do and then you get the occasional one that when changing up the pose even a little of a tweak or even just "y" rotate and it stays put but the rest go with the flow.

Some of the unsmart props will do that and from the hair folder too.

I suppose I should have said, that's what I do with Conforming Clothing. But yes, I've noticed with un-smart props like most weapons that even if you have parented it to the right or left hand, if you change the size or move it, it becomes un-parented and you have to go back and set Change Object Parent again. :caveman:

The beautiful thing about Poser 9 and Poser 10 is that one can drag and drop the item on the character and it auto conforms all by itself.

Yep in version 9 you can just click on the article of clothing and hold it while dragging it to the character and then drop it on their body and it is all done.
