We here had a freeze for one night, last weekend. Did not last at that temperature. Rain has been our big problem here, saturating the ground, and making a lot of mud. The grass has pretty much let loose of the soil, and slipping and falling is a high risk around here. Can't walk anywhere without having to cross wide areas of muddy ground. Got covered in it while carrying groceries in to our home. About $30 worth got ruined.

They are trying to drain High Falls Lake to clean out the detritus that collects there, but the rain has been so torrential, that it keeps the lake near full, even on the rare days we have no rain. Was hoping to get some driftwood to use for making wood products, but cannot get to it, because I have no boat, and it is too far into the water to reach from shallows. Driftwood is fun to work with, if you know how, and I do. Alas, I shall have to wait.

I am missing the dry ground, as it has been like this for nigh on seven months now.

Well WE are getting a bit of that snow TL.  And hard freezing temps too.  It is almost a heatwave here now at 10°F!  But being a dry snow, it just wipes right off the windshield, and  blows off the roads.  Pretty nice that, except for the low temps.   I was gonna pop out for groceries today.
Blah!  I ordered Dominoes delivery!  LOL!   :woohoo:

At least that white stuff stays on top of the ground. The wet stuff wants to permeate the ground, and compromise the grasses' root hold on it.

To illustrate how saturated our ground is, we pulled up a post that has a concrete anchor. It just came right up with no more that a weightlifting exercise. The resulting hole began filling in with surrounding soil almost immediately, because it was just mud mixed with grass. I used a shovel to fill it in with soil and gravel. Now that is the hardest soil spot around! LOLOL

Had that happen here in 2019.  That was the year that a house slid into the lake due to the rains eroding the land it was on...

Our plow just made one pass early this morning and hasn't been back since.  I'm not even going out to see what the snow is like but with it being 4 degrees I'm betting it's pretty dry...but enough of it piled up still makes for a heavy load  :thud:

T'would be nice to have one, but I don't. Besides, the pieces i'm wanting are rather large, and lodged by large sections of the underlying bedrock. Best way to get to it is with cutting tools during a draining. Seems that is not possible during this draining, because the weather is not allowing the lake to drain. If this rain continues like this, we'll likely have yet another flood, like the one several years ago that washed out bridges, inundated whole neighborhoods in south Georgia, and caused billions of $ in damage; not top mention several deaths. The river that the Lake is on was fifty or more feet above normal here in High Falls. That flood cleaned out all low lying vegetation along the river here. An old ruined bridge that was just below the dam was completely washed away.

The rain stopped some long time ago so drying up at the moment. Even the sky has cleared up and is mostly blue with lots of clouds ... all white in color instead of the grey ones from this morning

And here4 I thought that I had it bad.  No rain last night and this AM, but that still didn't stop the frost from forming on the car.  Still had to do some digging and chopping to get it road worthy.  Though not that much.  Forecast for tomorrow is for snow .... as is the one for Monday.  Snow and more snow.  I know that the weather weenies love to change things on us poor mortals, but this is ridiculous!!!!!  So far, all is still good.  No issues with pipes and I hope it stays that way.  Ground on the other hand . . . . .   'Round house, still a bit slick.  No busted buns as yet.  Roads are all clear with just a bit of leftover ice on the bridges round town.  And to think that this is supposed to be hill country/high desert.  Oh well.
Hipshot

Right, 'ere we go.  Roll cross country and go through the ditch . . . fire main gun to look . . . Oooops.  Is it supposed to do that?
