Modeling in Anim8or: Editing Points Basics
« on: April 24, 2014, 11:00:26 PM »

While using spline tools in Anim8or, editing points is a very simple task. Editing points once the mesh is created however works just a tad differently. The method used here is pre-mesh; mainly employed while using the spline tools.

Step1. The goal here is to create a quick wine glass for one of my scenes; so I create the basic shape I want with my “spline” tool. I lathe it as explained in the first tutorial. Now I have my basic shape.

Step2. While this result may be fine to some, I can’t stand it! I didn’t get the bevel on the rim that I wanted and it looks like an inverted lamp shade. Sooo…..I use “Ctrl+z” to go back to my splines. Or you can use “Undo” in the “Edit” menu. Now that I am back to my spline outline you’ll notice that it’s black lines. This is perfectly fine, no need to panic! Click anywhere on the black outline to display all of the points again.

Step3. Now that I have my points visible I can correct my errors. Choose the point you wish to move and click on it. You’ll notice that three green boxes appear; the two outer are guides while the center green box is your point. Now just click and hold to grab the point and reposition it to your liking. Repeat this for each point you wish to relocate.

Step4. Once you have adjusted all the points to your liking just Lathe it as you did before. Now that’s more like it! That is how a wine glass should look. Make sure to delete your original splines and points as shown in the first tutorial before saving or exporting out as an obj. You can further smooth it by using “Smooth Object” in the Build menu as I did in the final mesh. That’s it!!! You’re done!

Hope this helps clear things up a bit.

It certainly does, and we thank thee very much for the detailed explanation.

Now back to that bird bath model :heeheehee:
