A Mothers Son

Dedicated to all the heroes that never return home.


 I trembled in fear as inched my way,
To a hole in the ground where a comrade lay
Hold fast my friend, keep close to dirt,
Screaming the order to keep me alert,
His face contorted through fear and pain,
My efforts, I knew would all be in vain.
Oh! God in heaven pull us all through,
Make this tour the last we ever need do,
And then, fuck his screaming, let him die,
Just thinking those words, I began to cry.
Look at him, one leg here, and another there,
He looks back at me with a dead-mans stare.
There is nothing left for me to put right,
That bloody IFAK is a pile of shite….
He grabs my hand, he has tears in his eyes,
He tries to speak but, simply dies,
So here we lie, in a hole in the dirt,
Fighting for freedom, staying alert,
Fighting and dying on another mans soil,
For Queen and Country, remaining loyal.
