While there is a chance of the world getting through its troubles, I hold that a reasonable man has to behave as though he were sure of it. If at the end your cheerfulness in not justified, at any rate you will have been cheerful.

Literature is an occupation in which you have to keep proving your talent to people who have none.

A facility for quotation covers the absence of original thought.

The prospect of a long day at the beach makes me panic. There is no harder work I can think of than taking myself off to somewhere pleasant, where I am forced to stay for hours and 'have fun'.

If we wait for the moment when everything, absolutely everything is ready, we shall never begin.

Nothing was,
     nothing will be,
everything has reality and presence.

Standing on the bare ground...
a mean egotism vanishes.
I become a transparent eyeball;
I am nothing;
I see all;
the currents of the Universal Being circulate through me
I am part or particle of God.

- Ralph Waldo Emerson

You should enter not a mountain,
But your own mind------
Make your hiding place
In the unknown
