As Amaranth said, you should only collapse at the end of modelling  but many people model with smoothing on.

To have fewer polygons, you need to create your model with fewer.  To remove polygons you will have to delete faces and vertices and weld points.  Not so much fun.

If you have smoothed your model you can unsmooth it by choosing '0' in the red rectangle in Amaranth's first image.  You can also try clicking on the minus smoothing icon under Vertex Modelling to get back to an unsmoothed version of your model.

Once you have collapsed your model (clicking the lightning bolt icon in Amaranth's second image in the red rectangle bottom right) you can not undo it.  You can hit 'undo' immediately after collapsing and it will undo the function but once you move on and do other things you can not come back and try to take your model to its rough polygon form.

It is best to save incrementally as you work.  I believe Hex2 has an incremental saving option in preferences.

Thank you.
Guess I need to work with this some more. I was hoping to be able to set values (cylinder, 10x10). I am still new to this stuff, determined, but on a limited budget. It's really hard to find tuts that start at square 1.
I have been working with Poser 8 (and still floundering a bit) and want to create clothing (non-conforming) and armor. Of the programs I've tried, Hex seemed to be the most straight-forward, except for this..
Thanks again.
