How to access textures in Poser 8

If this is what you mean VolcanicMink...

1. click tab for materials room

It will open to the new window with the pose window reduced in size.

there is a drop down window for the item that is selected prior to clicking the material tab--see image

#2 = the item selected
#3= what you wish to choose to edit...head, body, arms legs

If there is a texture in the first window that is not loading right or you wish to use something different then click the window ---- this brings up the browse window to click the browse button to search your folders (where your runtime or external runtime live)

find the texture you want to use then click open when you locate it. it will then show in the browse window for in case you change your mind hit browse again or click OK if done.

it will then apply to the part you chose to apply it to.


IF you mean to edit a texture then you again look in your runtime for the item, go to photoshop and open it, then edit it making sure to use a copy and not the original. Save it with a new name then use the method above to apply it.

If still not right ask here and someone will chime in.

I am wondering how to change things that are not on the materials list, like eyebrows. I am using Poser 8's model Ryan and would like to change the color and shape of the eyebrows. The faceroom allows some changes, but I am past the point of being able to use that feature.
Another example would be skin changes. Nipple color used to be on the materials list in Poser 6, but they took it off. Now when I darken the skin color, the nipples disappear. I'mguessing that I may have to move the image into Photoshop, but I don't know how to access the maps to begin with.

If he is one that came with P8 ( I don't have any of them installed) or probably even if you installed him

If installed with P8:
go to program files (usually on c drive) >smith micro > Poser 8> runtime > textures and look in there

for external runtimes then go to where you have your external runtimes at and still look in the textures folder for him.

You should be able to open him up from Photoshop and edit a copy of it which you can always name exactly the same with a number 2  like if original is head.jpg, yours would be head2.jpg or myhead.jpg to find in the material room.

Doe the dials within the posing window not allow for the eyebrows to be positioned differently? Can you tell I do not have this character...lol

To change the shape of anything like an eyebrow, on any characters, M4 et al, you will need to design a transparency mask (black and white) as for the texture like color, you will need to either go procedural or use graphic map.  But for Ryan, the eyebrows is hardwired onto the texture map itself so you'll need to create a new head map for Ryan is you want to change the eyebrow shape.
