Was it made in Sculptris?

You're welcome guys!

Ray, I have no idea of it was made with Sculptris or not. Or if it was necessary for the move to have many polygons.

Way too many polys for quick sims. The cloth room works best when the number of polys in the cloth is similar to the number in the figure it collides with. Higher number of polys in the mesh actually works worse than too few polys. I see that they wanted to model in the pleats but were afraid they would lose shape with the sim. I gave away a pleat ring base to make these types of dresses for the cloth room years ago. Way fewer polys and suitable for subdivision.

It's a lovely dress and I will use it, but it's really heavy for a "sock hop" or "ballroom" type render which might be expected to have a couple of them in the scene.

Good find.

You can tell by looking at the mesh. Sculptris mesh looks like two triangles stuck together instead of a rectangular polygon.

Thank you pdg. Yes, the more the garment mesh is like the body mesh it's on, the better it flows on that body.

Did the dress be free? I don't see similar dress between his freebies on Renderosity or Sharecg

And it looks like his site has no more freebie category.

not looked but I trust PDG ;-)

PhilC had a similar dress years ago (prob less polys but I dunno if its still online)

marvellous designer gives a tri mesh but its a Delaunay mesh and sims pretty good
but is a pita to make conforming

if that was made in scuptris this guy/gal needs encouragement!!!    ......... and help to learn a better modeller !!

Dracx will kill me if I'm wrong but Zbrush makes tris ........but has a great tool to remesh to quads

Yes, Sculptris was made to work with Zbrush, where you could take what you modeled in Sculptris and retopologize it in ZBrush, turning those triangles into quads and lightening up the number of polygons and weight considerably. I wouldn't know if it was made in Sculptris without seeing the mesh though.

It's tris but not Delaunay unless they were subdivided or something. Correct on the Delaunay tris for the Cloth Room. We spent months working that out on Rendo years ago before the site redesign killed most of the images. Quads make the best conformers in my experience, but decimating conformers on figures ends up with tris for fbx export.
