Seeing the Whole Picture

Adobe InDesign CS3 Tip  Seeing the Whole Picture.

When you click on an image with the Direct Selection tool, you'll see a bounding box around the whole image. But is there a way to see the whole image, even the parts that are being cropped by the Graphic Frame? This could be very helpful when trying to position and crop the image within the Frame.

Try this and see for yourself. Place a fairly large photo in a relatively small Frame (File>Place). Switch to the Direct Selection (A), and click and hold on the image until the entire photo appears ghosted outside of the Frame before repositioning it within the Frame.

This makes it much easier to find the part of the image you wish to use. If you select a Graphic Frame with the Selection tool, you can take advantage of this same feature, by clicking and holding on a bounding box point before you begin to drag in or out to crop the picture.

With the image ghosted outside the Frame, the cropping process can be a lot easier.
Fear not,
You are never alone,
I am there to comfort and guide you...
Always.

This I haven't found yet by accident so quite cool.
