I use to use Ice Packs to lesson the pain and swelling. Worked well.

I agree with you 100% on getting the focus off the middle.  To many times you miss the other great things done in a creation because you have one focal point....

if You want to use the Golden Rectangle on this site  with a max 2000 pix across and 1236 pix either tall or wide. if that helps anyone. :hypno:

I tend to find that when I concentrate too much on things like the Golden Rectangle, grids and spirals, my work suffers and I and my viewers are all rather less than impressed.

Typically this is a “fresh out of school” technique. This is merely meant to teach how to direct the attention of the viewer to points of interest in a scene.

True Art is much more than pretty colors and highly detailed subjects; it tells a story from the Artists point of view. These techniques, like many others are meant to be forgotten as your skills increase. To a seasoned Artist....they have very little value.
 
Not to say that such techniques aren’t important; on the contrary….To the beginner they will be what makes or breaks your success in telling said story.
