What are python scripts and how do you use them?

Tricky subject they are in the simplest form a one click solution designed by content developers to perform certain tasks.

There are two locations for most of them on the main stage on the tool bar under Windows > Python scripts, or Scripts >

And then one in the Material room on the advanced tab in the Wacro pane

Basically they simplify complicated tasks down to a couple of clicks. It is a matter of reading the read me's for them and deciding if you want or need to use them to add depth or a certain feel to your render.

Each one of them is for a different task or function and regrettably there is no one answer fits all for python scripts.

I like to use the ones in the material room for adding sub surface scattering on realistic skin textures to add more depth to them and before I learned how to do cell shading I used the Set Up Toon Render frequently.

The simple answer is no

In the general preferences on the tab for Miscellaneous you will find a radio button that says Set Python Editor what it does is open a browse dialog box for you to select the application you want to use to edit Poser Python scripts. Usually Notepad or Notepad++
