Thanks. Ed's kid is going to give me a call later today as well. He just had a new gaming laptop built by a friend. That always scares me. Built by a friend. Still kids are way better at this stuff than shaky old guys like me.

Um, Sir Knight, PDG;    Excuse my feistiness ok?  But this is a forum that people have to use COMPUTER gear to even read.   So this is the COFFEE Shop, which we techno-geeks also need to operate.  Caffeine!    I cannot separate the computer stuff from the coffee shop stuff.  Just can't see it.   For others to sit there, using computers to tell us to stop talking computers?
C'mon man!  REALLY!    :nopanic;

I gotta start collecting info on sourcing laptop hardware.   I know there are people that DO build 'generic' laptops, but this is like a cottage industry that has really gotten going the last decade I figure.   I'm interested!

McG I saw the creation of BadMoodRisen. I'm not worried about building a tower. This one is quite up to speed as mentioned earlier though a bit of RAM and a new GPU wouldn't hurt. I'll probably have them sent over later today. $600. Doable. It's laptop advice I really need. More from user experience than technical specs. I know folk here are using their machines to do artwork of different types and their experience is more valuable to me that some sales kid telling me what I need to purchase in order to frag the world in Call of Duty or whatever the kids play now a days. I've just never purchased a mobile device, and on a fixed income I don't want burn cash and suffer buyers remorse for having spent too much to purchase something that sets the apartment on fire cooking a render or simple cooks itself.

All three of my favourites later on. I'll be back for some of that later. Right now it's off to get the groceries.

Good morning!
Well, I never own a desk computer until now. Always with laptops, but I don't search for 100% real when I do a render. My W8.1 was the best anyway (8Go of RAM), and my Vista was second in rank with 4Go.
The most recent I have is the W10 from which I'm writing. Back to 4Go with it. With a AMD processor (AMD A6 9220 Radeon). I think the Vista was also under AMD. The W8.1 (still living, but thanks to an external for its brain) has a Nvidia; yet it was unable to manage things like iray in Daz - tried once, in 2 minutes was warm. With Poser superfly, it tooks 20 minutes before it started to become warm.

I don't know how are the batteries for laptops in North America. It's at random here. I know people who lost quickly their batteries. For the Vista, it tooks 4 or 5 years before its stopped to work. For the W8.1, it was quick to die but don't remember how many (had the laptop working with its internal hardware from Summer 2015 to end of 2017). I cross fingers, W10 (I have it since end of 2017) has still its but I see some signs that I must take care.

I don't run necessarily the most recent programs also. Anyway, I can use on W10: Daz3, Wings3d, PD Artist, Photoshop, for those I use the most and are asking memory. Sometimes even working a scene in DS3 and modelizing in Wings3d.
With the W8.1, I can run Poser (10, not 11 because I don't want the phoning home), DS4 (downgraded from 4.10 to 4.6  :happydance: like the older version doesn't calculate each movement in the program), Flowscape.

Conversations about computers are fine since we are talking about them over coffee and Fafnirs vittles.....so all is good.

Politics, on the other hand, are not good in here....so chat away about the puters all you want...

Just got back from the dropping off the kitties at the Animal Shelter for their vet visit.  Soon Puss Puss will be meowing in a high voice and Henrietta will stop her "Horny Meows"....  Guess they will be there until late afternoon.

Then had to get a couple of Medical Collars for them so they don't lick anything and get infected.

And Sir Knight...it's snowing and blowing hard here...and I think I'm sending it your way....

Now to post a winner up for TOTW.....with :java: in hand.....  Great coffee this morning Fafnirs  :java: Ahhhhhh
