Adobe InDesign CS3 Tip - Save Loads of Time with Styles

There are Paragraph and Character Styles, Object Styles, and now Table and Cell Styles in CS3. They all save time in setting up a document, and assure consistency. All Styles in InDesign also make it simple to deal with the only constant in design - change.

For instance, change one object that an Object Style had been applied to, and with that object still selected, look under the Option menu of the Object Styles panel and select Redefine, and all objects with that Style applied will change instantly.

Any kind of Style in InDesign has the Redefine command under its Options menu. With all of the efficiency, and consistency that Styles offer, I still hear excuses for not using them.

My favorite is "It's just an ad. Setting up a Style for a single page is a waste of time." Having done a lot of training in ad agencies I hear this all the time.

My answer is always the same. "Most ads are part of a campaign with a campaign look.

You can go under the Options menu of any Styles panel and select Load to make use of the Styles from a previous ad in your new layout to save time and assure consistency in your campaign."
Fear not,
You are never alone,
I am there to comfort and guide you...
Always.
