Title: Christmas 2023
Post by: Aelin on November 29, 2023, 06:39:26 AM
Soooo Radkres reminded us the Christmas freebie season has started. It should be more active than this Halloween.

Warning: most of Daz freebies are for DS4 users. And they are available for a short period of time; it's not certain they are back another time before Christmas.
Supposed dates will be given before them, because Daz time flies often weirdly.

Unfortunately, the Lights are a page not found, so they are a day-only thingy.

On another note the main shop>daily freebies has several Poser items. I set mine to be filtered to not show anything I have gotten before...LOL :xmas5:

The other freebies that you saw aren't for thos Christms time. They are either permanent, or the biweekly ones.
I leave the links day after day, even if they are only temporary, in case they are back before Christmas. But yes, this year it's only 1 day available; at the contrary of the previous years where they were still available 1 or 2 days after.

Tomorrow, I'll add our famous Christmas link  :xmas:

Well now, let's try this again! The reason I am saying this is that I lost all connection to the internet for a few minutes. Had to trick my smartphone to get back online. Seems we are getting interference from the massive Solar Flare.

Now to the subject at hand:
I see I was right about the way I read the promo at DAZ yesterday. There is one freebie up for each day, but only available for free on the day it is put up for free. I also noted that so far each freebie supposedly saves you $0.10. So if that trend continues, anybody that did not take the freebies on the day each was up for free should be able to buy them for ten cents apiece. One dollar might buy 10 of the ten cents product packs.
Title: Re: Christmas 2023
Post by: Aelin on December 01, 2023, 06:56:03 AM
Not necessarily. Because like Dark Angel said, the old links are no longer working for the moment.
I guess Daz needs to add a price for their system to work. So this year, they decided for $0.10. It could be $999 if they wanted to.

EDIT: the freebie of today is $14.99; perhaps this one will stay in the shop after the celebrations.

You fixed it before I could. Indeed today's freebie has a $14.99 savings.
The latest weekly freebies are now up also, and I grabbed them all, plus the freebie of the day. Sheesh! Starting to get complicated! Good thing I like it that way! LOL

Post by: CalieVee on December 02, 2023, 10:19:31 AM
Didn't see one started so here you go, oh and make sure to check each day, each freebie is only up for one day. Haven't heard about Renderosity yet, but will keep you updated and about other places as I find them...

OK here's the page for the freebies at Daz. On the page you will have to scroll down a little bit.
https://www.daz3d.com/2023-daz-holiday-sale

3D Shards will be holding a Christmas Calendar this year, you can find the freebies each day on the link below. You will need to be registered to get these freebies.
https://3dshards.com/sa/ (edited)

This site is not english and you do have to register to get the freebies. They have one each day for 24 hours.
https://www.3d-board.de/wcf/advent-calendar/

This site is not english, they usually offer software with free license for 1 year. I can't say for sure, but I don't think you need to be registered to get these freebies. Again one each day for 24 hours.
https://www.pcwelt.de/xmas

And another site that's not english, also offers software with 1 year license. Don't think you need to be registered for these. Also one each day for 24 hoursj.

Yes, that's true. Even so, year round, they have a Freebies section that has thousands of free products. It's one of the sites I go to regularly for freebies. Some of the freebie pages they have listed provide links to other sites where the actual products are for downloading; especially ShareCG.

Nope Mary, Rendo never stopped, it's just they change their time in the month to share freebies.
I'm currently looking to simplify the Christmas and Halloween section, that's why I checked the time last year.
Another year, it was around December 19th they started.

And finally, Renderosity has the free event!
https://www.renderosity.com/article/27879/dec2023-12-days-of-christmas-give-away-december-13th
Warning: it's daily you need to go on Rendo to take your freebie(s). They stay only for 24 hours, and after that the link changes... It seems the big sites have decided to do the same for the timing of a freebie.

The dark side: it's not even announced on their own forum. I'm glad somebody took an eye on their site for me earlier today.
And the third "freebie" is only for their prime members this time.

Also, for those not interested by DS4 products, try your luck anyway. On Rendo, they have products sometimes with .obj format.

Title: Re: Christmas 2023
Post by: Agent0013 on December 17, 2023, 10:26:38 AM
I've been doing the DAZ Punch thing, when I could, and every free item offered in the punch was an item in my Wishlist. As it was being offered for free, that is what I chose, over the second item of each day put on sale for $2.99. I have only done the first punch each day I could get it. My punches would continue for three days, after priming it with a low cost purchase, just on the first punch. I have not earned the second or third punches yet, but I think if they are also active, they too will last a few days. Not sure if that is true, but I'm just basing my notion on the experience I've had with the first punch.
Just thought folks here might want to know about how it is working for me. No reason to think it won't be the same for others.
Title: Re: Christmas 2023
Post by: Aelin on December 17, 2023, 01:14:45 PM
What I read on their forum isn't exactly that, even if the experience of each person seems... not the same than the others.
Indeed, there are people who didn't buy one day, and they lost their 3 punches the next day and sometimes for as long as 3 days.
And you had stuff of your wishlist, but it's not always the case. I saw yesterday 2 or 3 people who had nothing from their list (products must be Daz Originals or Daz+ I don't remember) despite the fact they had still a lot.

And like they aren't free without paying - and different from an user to another - it's the reason why their advent calendar will stay not remembered in the first message of topic.

And while I'm thinking about. We passed the middle of the month 2 days ago, and there is still no catchup for people who missed one day of freebies. It was something they did before.
Title: Re: Christmas 2023
Post by: Agent0013 on December 17, 2023, 04:45:41 PM
Like I said, this is just what my experience has been. I do have a large amount of products on my wishlist, and many of them are DAZ Originals. I think all of the ones I got that were on my wishlist were DAZ Originals. I only buy one product from the main store for a low price, and it activates the first punch for the next three days. When I click on that punch, two items are offered, the left one is free and on my wishlist, and the right one is $2.99, and if I buy it, I don't get the left one, but that activates the second punch for the next day. I never got that far, though because I choose to grab what is on my wishlist instead. The next day, the first punch again has the same arrangement, and again on the third day. I'm spending only up to $2.10 for the paid for item, and only one every three days. That keeps my first punch going for the three day period after I get a paid for item in the main store. I think it is worth it to do things that way, as what I get free from my wishlist is of good value to me. Some things I have had on the wishlist for several years popup for free this way.

I'm sorry but it's not "popup for free" because you had to pay to have it "free".

Anyway, this section is for freebies that you have by not giving a single penny, so like it's a new day, it's time for the new Rendo link.
https://www.renderosity.com/article/27874/dec2023-12-days-of-christmas-give-away-december-18th
Still 2 freebies available.

I've been taking the freebies at Renderosity each day since they started. Some are really awesome! Others are for when I can use Iray, and Genesis 8 and 9. Taking those because hopefully I will be able to get a new computer that can handle the latest DAZ figures and renderer. Good to have them already when I do.

If the dress is for V4, it may be for Poser only, DAZ Studio has the Optitex Dynamic plugin, and the dForce built in Dynamics engine. Most likely it is for the Optitex plugin as dForce is for Genesis and later figure Clothing and Hair. Never seen any dForce dynamic clothing for V4, M4, or K4. I imagine that it could be made though.

I saw not dforce, but dynamic for M4 by the past on Daz. By Optitex, so such dynamics aren't for Poser.
But for those being Prime, it worth it to reclaim the freebie anyway, then to check.
And I'm not sure, but maybe you can take a dynamic for Poser to convert in a .cr2. I think I saw that once, from Poser dynamic to a cr2.

Well if you think about it they are all made from mostly .obj files. Cr2 is for conforming clothing that uses version of the rigging of the figures they are made for, and for Poser Figures, Cr2 is practically the only Poser figure format, no matter what type of figure it is, whether a vehicle, human or animal or fantasy creature, clothing, figure type hair, or machinery that has rigging for moveable part purposes. Dynamics of any type is something I don't know much about, but I'm sure that most of that type of product is also made mainly from .obj files. Of course there are other model formats, many being proprietary to the applications that use them, and perhaps there are dynamic types for those applications, if they can have them. I don't know, for instance what formats are dynamic for Blender, but I do know Blender has dynamics. I'm sure that other applications do also.

The dynamic for Poser is in pp2 format. Either the geometric code is in a .obj format, or it's directly in the .pp2 format.

I suppose dynamics would be a type of Pose. All I'm saying is that the clothing needs to be based on some type of geometric model. The dynamics comes in as the way the geometry behaves, or to be more specific, they way it moves, and how it acts with other geometry models, like the figure that is wearing a dynamic clothing item. The Dynamic clothing has collision programming that prevents poke through. I suppose the Dynamic programming can be Poser .pp2. But isn't the Cloth Room in Poser part of how it works?
In DAZ Studio, Optitex uses animation to make the dynamic clothing work. I once did a piece that had my female figure doing a flip with a half twist in an attack move. Her dress was behaving the way it would with that type of movement. When it reached the frame that showed the figure and the dress in the pose I wanted, I rendered that frame larger. I had another figure being kicked by that move, falling back and twisting around from the blow. I don't know what happened to that render, but it was awesome looking. That was done with the DAZ Studio Optitex Plugin, and an Optitex optimized Dress for V4. That was like 8 or 9 years ago, and I cannot find the image now. I thought I had it on the computer I now use, but it isn't.

The pp2 gives infos to the programs, which calculates what is necessary to do with infos that you added in the Cloth Room.
A pp2 for a dynamic isn't different from a standard pp2. You can even add a simple shape like a place and simply with the Cloth Room transform it in a "fabric in the wind".

So using Poser Dynamics, I could make a house ripple in the wind? Would I like to see that? Yes I would! LOL

CR2   Character file. Anything with rigging.
PP2    Prop file. Anything without rigging.
They are interchangeable.

Poser dynamic is a simple OBJ file with collision between OBJ vertex and face detected and an offset provided. Delaunay triangles are the best geometry for the colliding OBJ.

You are not going to "ripple" a house with dynamics. You might use the physics engine to do it but I haven't tried such a thing. It is beyond easy to ripple a flag with respect to Wind Force using dynamic cloth.

Poser's Cloth Room has absolutely nothing to do with making or deploying dynamic cloth. It is a way to transfer rigging from one CR2 into another group of one or more OBJ files to make a new CR2 file. Conforming cloth not dynamic cloth.

There are multiple ways and plug-ins to do cloth in Blender. Each is different and separate technique.

I've written ad nauseam on the process over the years. I wrote numerous tutorials on pfdlives at one time as well as Rendo and other places.

For Renderosity, it's over with Christmas freebies.

For Daz, there is a new one today (available also tomorrow and the day after, if the countdown is right).
There are also the 2 newest Christmas freebies of the list.
For the 3 in all, check the first message of topic.

Thank you for clarifying this, PDG. I learn from you because of it. Sadly, those PFDLives tutorial files have been lost, due to the switch to a different server for the site. If those files had been allowed to remain, I would be more likely to know more about Poser, including the way Dynamics works in Poser. With such bad search engine skills as I admittedly have, finding other tutorials and info concerning that and other things about Poser is quite difficult for me. Don't worry, my friend. Sooner or later, I will find a way to learn. I am studying what I can find, even though it is coming to me rather slowly.
In the meantime, I and also working to learn about the equivalent version of dynamics in DAZ Studio, even though at the moment I do not have the capability to learn about the dForce Dynamics engine. Thus far, I've only successfully used the Optitex Dynamics plugin. Soon I will be brushing up on that, as my current computer is able to handle it. When I am able to get a better computer that has the needed hardware, I will be working to learn the new dForce engine, which can even do dynamic hair. I don't know for sure, but I expect that Poser now has dynamic hair also, if it did not have it already.
Again, thanks for the more accurate information!

Dynamic hair? Don't remember all those PFD threads on making furry creatures like Mica huh? Or the "How to grow hair on anything, even a bowling ball" thread? I gave away a dynamic pony-tail for use on any figure. Universal pony-tail hair. That was Poser's Hair Room. None of that stuff took any special amount of computer power. I used a Pentium and then a Core2Duo to do that stuff for years. No special graphics card required. No massive amount of RAM. It's been part of Poser for 10 years or more now I guess.

I do remember the threads. Was using a lot of your tutorials to learn Poser 10, when Smith Micro had it. When my laptop went almost belly up, it became difficult to do things on it. I still have the old laptop, but no battery or power supply for it. I would like to put the harddrive in another computer, but do not have one to put it in. My current computer is an HP All in One, and does not even have HDMI connection capability. I think I have a lot of my old files on it.
Dynamic Hair in Poser, I did expect was possible. I don't know about my version of Poser 10, as it is not the pro version, but if as you say, it is light on the resources of the computer hardware, my version may have had it also.
DAZ Studio had Optitex dynamics for clothing, but nothing for hair in DAZ Studio. The dForce Dynamics engine is for both clothing and hair. Both engines include dynamics animation capabilities. Making clothing or hair dynamic for any engine is beyond my current skills, and learning it would put too much on my already full learning efforts at this time. In the future though, I may decide to take it on.

It seems the Daz link above is still working, so you can try if you missed yesterday to catch all of those you didn't take. Warning: no one in Poser or .obj formats; but 1 freebie has also Carrara format.

Otherwise today is the last day of the month, so all surprises prepared by our members or kind people not between our members are known
