Genesis 8 - Poser 11
« on: March 05, 2021, 04:22:06 PM »

I have tried to use DAZ and just can't ever get it to work with all of the content I have purchased since I started using Poser more than 10 years ago. I do love some of the characters that Daz is creating for Genesis 8 but would love to know if and how I can use them in Poser. Right now I am running Poser 11. Is there a way to do this, a tutorial that shows how etc? I know Daz files are different than Poser ones and would need to know what I have to do to have it work if it can?

Any help would be extremely appreciated.

I just did a general lookup and here is one hit I got...there are others.  Just put the question down as you did in here....convert poser items to daz...

I used Poser for years and have lots of stuff for it. I installed it to the runtime folder and you just have to go to the Poser format in your content folder, to access your Poser items. You can  install your items bought at ds for Poser through install manager also. Props and characters and materials will work but I found some files don't work espcially the older files, but anything bought at ds should be installed through install manager and they will show up even in smart content in DS.

Forgive me but I read this as wanting to use DAZ stuff in Poser. Is this the case? Genesis 1 & 2 can be used in Poser 11 with no issues other than it's weight from shapes. With Genesis 8, 8.1 can transfer with a bit of work but will not be really useful if you add a lot of morphs. The figure gets extremely heavy and will bring Poser to a crawl. Facial rigs from G8 won't travel to P11. For simple props and the like FBX export from Studio will give you a useable result. FBX export from Studio will work just fine for pretty much anything from Studio to Poser 12. If you need a workflow for genesis in P11 look at Rendo for the Genesis 3 to Poser thread. I know you are looking to move Genesis 8 but you will get your answers there.

What PDG wrote Gypsy, From genesis 3\7 Studio ensured noncompatability with Poser. There  was\is a Dson script which would let you bring DS stuff in, but the overhead my dear, the overhead. In studio the huge morph stack was just pointers, on transfer the actual morphs would be installed ( to the tune of a few hundred Mbytes) Causing many computers to tearup and cry when you decided to add hair and a nightee.

I started in Daz Studio with DS3 just before DS4 arrives on the market. I jumped in DS4 at the end of the year where it was out of the wood. I wasn't impressed when I discovered all my Poser format stuff was simply turned into grey boxes each time I closed the program. I uninstalled and reinstalled, same problem.
It was only an update of the programs which finally allowed it to work correctly for me.

So how I worked with DS4 stuff and Poser stuff at that time?
I simply exported the figure I wanted from DS4, in .obj format, to play in DS3. With textures and all. The figure was in the pose I wanted to use with the rest of the scene.
I had to work on the brillance of the skin, clothes... because it was worse than a plastic doll :tearlaugh: But it was worth the work just to play with another guy (I used Genesis male morphs) than M4; and children too like I didn't have kids, in any generation.

Thanks everyone! PDG was right, I was wondering if I could use Genesis 8 in Poser 11. Daz continues to create amazing characters clothes and everything for Genesis 8, even most of my favorite vendors on Renderosity are creating for Gen 8 characters. I have never learned Daz Studio and the few times I tried I just went back to Poser but I would love to use some of the new things that are being created for Gen 8 female and male characters.

I admit DS4 is a little :hypno: with all the tabs for pannels. I don't even know the most recent version, like I didn't install it, but I don't think it has too much changed.

It seems that documentation is always online.

Winterbrose made also 3 PDF for beginners. I give you the links of topics. But for today the FRM link is working, but not yet the login area, so try another of the links in the different topics.

The Beginner's Guide: Posing Models DS4
The Beginner's Guide: Lighting & Renders DS4

And AmirA shared a video she found years ago

Hoping that can help you if you try again in DS4.

Thanks Aelin, I might just have to give it a try again. I just wish that the genesis characters were compatible with poser :(
