Seconded ....

Trying to return it was a real hoot, I have been to this place once six years ago and no one at the shop knew the address so I did the ye ole "navigate to" thing and boy howdy was that a exercise in futility. Meaning I wound up going around in circles for a bit till I found the frelling entrance that took me to where I wanted to be ... :thud: ... at last.

Not looking forward to ever having to do that nonsense again ....

New fun went to the airport to cut over the system to a new set of microwave equipment ... got the first line patched no problem, the second one gave us issues ... turns out I missed the pair it was punched on by one on the receive side got the transmit right but the router was not coming up ... took a few minutes to figure out what happened ... once I did it came back up at last.

Once that was sorted, went to patch the second router in and after it greened up it was time to go downstairs and build a new cable to move the site to the new microwave equipment.

Now to make all this interesting my badge for the airport still does not work, even though I have already informed the powers that be of the disconnect.

So I am being escorted by the only one who has a badge that works to do my job. On top of the that the folks who are doing the antenna work have to be escorted by some one who has a badge ... such a pain.

Bottom line though we did accomplish what we had set out to do and my side of the task is complete and working.

Calling that a win.

Got an odd email asking for the part number of a male to male adapter for the antenna lines for the hospital project so they can do TDR tests on all of the lines ran to demonstrate they are to industry standards.

:ummm: What you do not have a simple barrel adapter on hand  :ummm:

Apparently not I guess, I have these thing around the shop by the handful ... did give them the part number so they can order one.

But, will be going out on Monday to provide him with an adapter, and to also shoot the antenna lines from the BDA to the antenna to get base line signal levels, and confirm I am pointed in the right direction.

Guess I am being a bit arrogant to think that all cabling companies would have such esoteric adapters and connectors in their tool set. If one does not do RF you would not likely have such items.

At any rate I will drop of a set for them to use in the interim ....

The fun part is that there is still no power for my equipment in that room, nor is there conditioned air or a completed ground bus.

Can't wait to see how they are going to fool the inspector during the inspection for their TCO.

Should be fun ... methinks

Now for even more "excitement" :shhhh: yep that was sarcasm.

Found out that the other hospital chain is also going to need to have DAS systems installed to be compliant with the NFPA 70e.

Oh great, guess I will be kept busy for a while longer to say the least. Because the other side of that statement is the schools in Orange county will also have to be upgraded with DAS systems. Now call me pessimistic, if you like but there are 191 schools just in Orange county alone.

Just think of it as a building block.  Your building up your 401K for retirement which will come when you're ready to retire.   Yes.....You are the one that makes the choice on WHEN you want to retire.....

Unless they decide to retire you early.....but with all that work...I doubt it.

Indeed ... don't believe there is any concept of them retiring me early for exactly that reason. Way to much work and no end of it in sight.

Not complaining mind you even if it sounds like it

As long as I do not have to install all of them, and can move up the ladder and do the project management and commissioning for the projects.

Well, we certainly have a reason to vent today. Went back to the hospital to check on how good my aiming skills are with the Anritsu.

What do I see when I get up there the antenna lines had been ran over with a cart as they were bent and two of the sleepers supporting said cable were ripped from the surface of the roof. All three lines had damage to them, how severe I don't know yet as I did not the TDR with me to actually check that out.

How is that for lazy, I suspect the roofers since the cart had flashing on it and here is the real :whatthe: they left the cart right in front of the line, there was no mistake as to what occurred.

The lines do not seem to be kinked, but I wont know for sure till Wednesday as today I have to go out to NASA again. However I already wrote the polite nasty gram to the site managers and informed them of the incident and that if they have to be replaced  ..... got a reply with them copying the GC saying if indeed they are damaged someonejusy bought them. There was also the bit in there about other contractor to show a bit of respect for the work done by others and so on ...

The other tidbit I find of interest is there is still no power in the room, or conditioned air. And my sub has just now got fiber in the room. Still has to terminate it and then he still has to run a TDR test on all lines that they ran for the antennas in doors.

If those lines on the roof are damaged though that is a major set back as that was two days of labor times three men to get that all completed.

Do not have time to do work over just because of an inconsiderate :rat-atat:
