Discussing Changing Shells
|
Once the mechanic had repaired the hydraulic leak, he and Eve discussed the advantages and disadvantages of changing her shell.
Jackson said, "There are a lot of benefits to having your robotic elements enclosed in a polymer nanocomposite, not so much for the human parts although this flexible version seems to have served you well."
"I feel as though having softer hands and limbs would be a benefit in the medical section of a ship. I also might feel better about myself, I think," confided Eve,"although I worry about potential damage to a softer shell."
"The new soft shells are bioengineered and will regrow if the damage is not too severe. We do have replacement parts although with the tech advancing all the time, you'd probably have to upgrade to replace catastrophic destruction."
After a long pause and with a sigh, Eve said, "OK, please let the femtechs know. Will it take long? Albany says she has to return to the Station soon."
"Under an hour if there are no complications. The process is automated once it is set up. Do you really call the Commander "Albany" to her face?"
