Bilbo comes to the Huts of the Raftelves (1)
|
This is the first tapestry made for "Aubusson weaves Tolkien" project.
All tapestries come from drawings made by Tolkien, in place of the current artists (Ted Nasmith, Allan Lee, John Howe) making images for the books.
The style to weave is the same used in 1930's, like it was around that time that Tolkien made his pictures, and also pretty similar to the making of medieval tapestries. So it was pur colors (no gradient of colors like nowadays with chemistry) and the use of the "battage" (mix of thread from a line to another to make a feeling of gradient).
Tapestries are all at least 20 times bigger than the drawings.
