Celeste

Once in every 10th generation a Myrenax came into the world endowed with ability far beyond that of his or her peers. Celeste far exceeded many of those that came before her and was held in the greatest esteem. She had it all... intellect, physical prowess and social grace. These attributes brought fame, power, wealth and honour. Everything she did turned to gold but despite it all there was something she did not have and yearned for. When the day's business, excitement and partying ended she returned home every night to the same emptiness. Companionship, it seemed, was the one thing she lacked and it was a gaping hole in her life. No other Myrenax could fulfil the longing that ate away at her heart and soul. Talking with friends sparked an idea. What if I had a pet? something new and different I could care for? There had been an outcry about reports of the treatment of some indigenous creatures in a nearby star system and a rescue operation had been set up to help these cruelly treated beasts. That's it, she thought. I will help their efforts and adopt one of those unfortunate animals...
