Chiaroscuro

Chiaroscuro is using tonal values to create the illusion of a three dimensional space on a two dimensional plane. Using lights like a photographer one can achieve chiaroscuro effect. Using basic art skills to pop out the subject by either darkening the background or using DOF to blur the background or a combination of both to define your subject will direct the viewer to the main part of the picture. It took me along time to realize this.
