Even though one's head is not that large as a three year old toddler, I don't think I've ever seen flakes quite that big. The ones this morning were maybe about as big as my thumbnail (long nails), perhaps 1/2 to 3/4's inch. It might have something to do with the fact that it's a lot warmer there higher up in the air, being further south, and the snow kept getting tossed up and added to before falling. That's all I can think of that would cause that.

It was warmer here this morning than now. Now it's very, very cold and the snow is very small and 'hard' (frozen). That's mostly what happens here - it starts out large like that and then if it continues, it gets smaller and frozen. Right now, it can't make up it's mind if it wants to stop or not. Supposedly that stuff is moving out now. It does cover the ground pretty fast when the flakes are big like that. And it's slippery too! At least here it is.
There might have been some hefty updrafts keeping the snow aloft until the updraft could no longer support the flakes at the size they got. I know the plopping on the roof was rather unusual for snow, which rarely is heavy enough to make an audible sound as it reaches a surface. I remember Mom saying it had got to four inches on the ground in just 15 minutes. That's fairly fast for that much accumulation; especially here in the Southeastern U.S. Of course we were having some very cold winters in those years.

When I was 7, we visited in East Griffin in the winter months, as Pop was overseas on a Navy ship. That year East Griffin and Griffin Proper had several ice storms that coated everything with a sheath of ice. It was bitter cold.

As Grandpa  was driving us back to Charleston S.C. a really bad storm hit. During the storm a rear wheel bearing gave out. We had to bundle up heavy in the car, while he went and got the needed part, and when he got back, he went straight to work in the bone chilling cold to replace the wheel bearing.

We thought he would catch his death in the cold. Even all bundled up and hugging each other for warmth, we were shivering from the cold. But Grandpa got the repairs done, and we continued on our way. That was a night of real hardship to the point of being unbearable. But we got through it. It did make me a bit wary of cold weather after that.

While we here in the Southeast don't have as many winter stories to tell, we do get some doozies from time to time. I think that because they are rare here, when we have an intense winter here, it sticks in our memories really well. It becomes a good tale to tell.

I'm heading out soon.......but first.....

A BIG THANK YOU  to our staff.  Darkangel (Mary) Jherith (Michael), Sidherose (Rayvn) and Aelin who help to keep this place going and up to date and fun and crazy at times......

Without them, we wouldn't have our humble home.....and without all of our wonderful family members, there would be no need for this place we call the Fantasy Attic.

There is no magic about the flip of the calendar, but it represents a clean break, a new hope, and a blank canvas.

Here's wishing you all a most excellent New Year.......

I thank ALL of you!   In spite of our grumbles now and then, The Fantasy Attic has been a great place to call HOME, and hang out in as I can.   Thanks to you the staff, we have the place.  Thanks to you AND all the people that also hang out here, this IS the place!
Happy New Year everyone!

Fafnir - enjoy your sleep-in man!   You deserve it (and likely need it!)

Aelin -  I really do hope your noisy neighbor has resolved his latent anger issues and is much quieter now, and you all can get some good cozy sleep!

Ray - hoping your weather holds Happy! for you, and you keep feeling better!

TL - May the SNOW shovel itself, the ice scrape itself and you can stay warm and cozy inside!

Jherrith - may it SNOW upon you at least once this year.   White, not yellow, snow...and you get GOOD students finally!

Mary - may someone kindly leave you a lovely fortune this year, and you get "it ALL" straightened out!

RodS - may your Health and Wellness FAR exceed last years!

Agent - wishing you the BEST year possible!

dRaCX - wishing you and your family great health, may everyone be WELL this year!

FRAN!  - I wish you a HAPPY and wonderful new year!

To all whom I haven't named, have a wonderful and happy new year!

Aaah... gmoong... oh my head!!!
And what's doing this wench in my bed? Oh hello dear, happy new year!
Mmmh... (yaaawn) yeah, maybe we had one too many yesterday night...
:Cup: :new_year_3: :champagne:
Yes, it must definitely be the beginning of another year, the symptoms are all there :tearlaugh:
Through the lifting fogs I begin to discern the images of the two of us popping the cork, firing a few XXL rockets on the balcony, then quick back in to warm us up with a schnapps or three, then back out again another couple of times in that thick cloud of brimstone, and then eventually... hmm, that's none of your business  :kissie: :pervy: :ifonly: :feelgood:

Well, semel in anno licet insanire, right? :winks:

Now after four or five  :java: :java: :java: :java: (thick espresso where the spoon nearly stands) I'm back to my old self again, just one year older and squeakier - but who cares?

And I want to thank you all wholeheartedly for this great insane Attic where since about one year and a half I feel free to listen and talk as myself without having to wear any of the stupid masks the world demands elsewhere - a simple straitjacket is a very convenient price for that! :tearlaugh:
So TheLufias, DarkAngel, Sidherose, Jerrith, Aelin, have a huge   :ty_luv: for running this cozy lunatic shelter and putting up with me without a moan. And another warmest :ty2: to all other members who hang out here to share their thoughts and their madness  :AEN: .

And eventually a last thank you to Kianna for saving me her needles and probes so far...  :nopanic;

To all of you

A VERY HAPPY 2019!!!

Yesterday around 12:05PM we were "no, not possible?!" because he started his 'music'. Fortunately it was a duration of 5 minutes. After, probably he went somewhere else for the rest of the day - and night. With any luck, maybe he is one of these so clever people who manipulate fireworks in France and had an amputation because of that. In his case I hope an amputation fo his head  :ifonly:
