Make a morphing terrain?
« on: April 17, 2017, 02:46:02 PM »
Almost all the question is in the title: how creates a morphing terrain?

I have the object format.
I make the supposition we need to magnetize. But if it's the good answer, even with the Poser documentation I can't find what I want. Magnets are for characters in the example.
I tried to put the magnet in a place, it was useless.

I hope too the morph will be able to work in Poser and Daz Studio.

I know mortemVetus made TerraDome, which is a morphing terrain and environment.
At first, it was a poser version and then they made a DS version.
Maybe they have some useful documentation about the way to morph a terrain in obj format.

It's to learn to do myself in fact. I had the possibility to take TerraDome for free in Christmas or for Mad March, but I prefered something of more useful (at least for me). And not free, TerraDome stays where it is in sale for the moment :psycho:

I have maybe a solution for DS, after several minutes of videoon a charater  :blownaway: we arrive on a plane.
I'm not sure it will work in Poser, but I will try it.

OK, I tried the D-morph in Daz Studio 3, on an object format.
I created a pp2 format the terrain, once I ended my test morphs.
I loaded the pp2 in Poser.

It work in Poser! Of course, I have forgotten to put morphs on the 0 deformation to start. But for once, something I "made" in Daz work in Poser.

the mags should work fine in poser for this but u must use the hi res square (cloth plane I think its called)

cos the really really need polys to move lol

of course you can also use a displacement map to create a specific terrain  :shiv3:
hush its not hard

Except for easy thinks like a wall with bricks, I'm not really good on displacement for the moment. I know it's a question of black/grey/white, but more complex than just change in "grey scales" in Photoshop.
So alas for now, because of this, the morph is my best solution.

making terrains like that is pretty easy but I don't use wings
an I think ur not a blender head lol [some peeps faint when u say blender]

but usin displacement can be fun an fairly easy .....its lots of places you can download elevation data of places on earth (possibly moon an mars too but I not looked )
so u can recreate that fav place in 3d if u want

your 1/2 way there lol its only a grey scale image ,use 16 bit if u can (so no jpgs, use png or tga..32 bit can be used but I don't know if poser/DS use that )
now the harder bit , all progs have a dif way of dealing with a map
in poser black is no movement white is max (can go neg on numbers lol )
in blender mid gray is no movement makes black a neg an white pos move
in DS I don't know so long since I looked at DS
so time to waste an hour an u learn how u like to do it

in ur fav paint proggy make an new image ( I use krita an set it to 16 bit greyscale)
make it nice an big (2048 or more)
an set b/g to mid gray
now in one 1/4 put a big black circle an in op corner make a big white circle
save as .png
now in poser (be a bit dif in DS but I don't use that lol )
load the hi res square
add image to displacement and colour (so u can see it lol )
pic one see how its pushed black down an white up ...........se setting its 50 lol if u use dials u can only goto 10 SO TYPE IT IN (ds may not do that I dunno )
see how rough edges are some is cos its a pic but some cos u got a round on a set of square polys [really sharp edges are hard to get good doin it this way )
pic two is running some Gaussian blur on pic { my way is a blur at 16 pix then again at 8 pix an finally at 4 pix makes it fairly smooth but more runs or other numbers is fine )
see how nice an smooth the edges have become
play with settings an stuff .....get happy with your results

is an important trick to know for your 3d arsenal .....can add seams an stitching to cloth
make that type on a tshirt shirt look like embroidery or applique .........dents in a car or a hole in the road
go wild an have fun

No I'm not a Blender girl :psycho: But at least, I left Hexagon, what is a good step for the moment.
In more, laptop will be not happy to add again a toy of this size  :shiv3:

In Daz Studio for what I see regularly it's black = negative (at least with a big size) and white = positive
