Steel and Aluminum
« on: June 01, 2018, 10:18:17 AM »
I normally stay away from this type of stuff, but I'm pissed off. I'm a Canuk as most here know and there are a large number of Europeans here as well who may have an opinion on this as well. Trade wars, NAFTA and all the rest are not what I am upset about. I am upset at the complete and utter disrespect, disregard, and vilification of tens of thousands, hundreds of thousands; of my dead countrymen who lost their lives fighting beside their American "brothers" over the last 150 years.
I am a vet. America has just had their Memorial Day to recognize those that died for their country. Well a hell of a lot of our folk have died beside them and to be labeled "A threat to American security." is a slap in the face and a kick in the balls.
I am more than certain that there are a number of European folk here that feel exactly the same way. People whose friends and family have died fighting beside Americans in many of the current conflicts around the globe and in the past as well.

NATO is a threat to American security? NATO soldiers die every day fighting beside American forces.
Canadian aluminum is a threat to your security? It's been in every US fighter jet for the last 35 years and don't even talk about the Canadian steel in your tanks.

The words that have come from the POTUS are an affront to any and all of the soldiers that have died on the battlefield fighting beside their American counterparts. It should be an affront to American soldiers as well.

When each member of NATO will really pay the 2% as it's in the pact, we can retalk of allies. Even France or Germany don't pay that, laugh when it's asked.
Yet countries with less money like Greece pay their part.

Do you know that European Union puts already taxes on US products? And not on China products.

I have no problem with taxes on European products... for what is always done here.

Trade is not my complaint. It is being labeled a threat to American security. It is the utter arrogance of such a statement and the complete disregard for all my countrymen who perished in support of American security only a couple of days after a public holiday to remember those who died in the name of American security. I am a vet. I proudly served my country and stood beside American soldiers. We died side by side. To be labeled a threat to the security of the United States is an affront to me and most other service people worldwide who have served their country by choice and not force. ie conscription or compulsory military service. Those who willingly risked their lives to protect others should not be treated with such utter contempt and disrespect. Real leaders don't lead by insult. They lead by example and respect. I doubt that the American President treats his own veterans with the contempt he lays upon others. Trade wars are not of my concern. I do not make policy and our economy cannot stand up to to one 100 times it's size on the border. That's for politicians not simple folk like me.
