Title: Impossible to open a psd file
Post by: Aelin on November 22, 2018, 04:01:28 PM
A moment ago I was working on a psd file with layers, I clicked to save my more recent work... and 1 second later W10 decided to restart alone  :sure:

When I have reopened Photoshop, and took the psd file it wasn't working. I have now that message (I translate): "you can not perform this action because the document is incompatible with this version of Photoshop"
:panic:

I have looked on web, and I found the possibility to open the image in Image Ready.
I have always all my layers there, but more than half are visible but like empty :whatthe:

I tried also by the Temporary file in Appdata, without success.

Yet the thumbnail shows the file with its higher layers (the ones which aren't visible in Image Ready).

Any idea? Had you already that situation?

Hummm....that is very odd indeed.   And no update was applied to Win 10?

I'll look and see what I can find for you.....Not sure why it would do that all of a sudden....

I have no more update since they screwed one for the graphic card earlier in the year. Even if computer tried twice a day, no matter I was working or not. I was able to stop the update search for everything.
Now W10 restart time to time alone (sometimes once by day during 1 week) but never try again to add an update. Alas like always, it doesn't prevent; for example now I'm writing, but it can restart when I haven't ended
It did once when I was saving a Daz scene. All what I did since the previous update was lost, but Daz saves by a tmp file before to transfer in the final file. So all wasn't lost.

Concerning my psd, I restarted on a "copy" saved via Image Ready when I tried to see if it was working there or not. I have noticed the template was saved in extremis, but colors aren't the same on all layer. It's a brutal cut in colors, so that layer was probably the last to be saved before the restart of computer.

Alright....Now that I have more info I'll do some hunting for you.  I only had that happen once many moons....but I do allow all updates....  As the Geeks said....you're damned if you do and damned if you don't....but in reality...your more damned if you don't then if you do.  :java:

Until Microsoft messed with the update, I accepted all updates. I hadn't choice.
But when the update said always "the update has failed. back to the previous version" each day... Well it was time to stop that problem coming to them forever.
And yes, I followed what they said on their site, taking manually the update in their catalogue. That didn't helped to have the update working. And no more updates could be taken by the computer like the one with problem blocked others.

Maybe if in December they hadn't forced my computer to take the all stuff with their own programs for one year when I checked the NO parts weeks ago, all was well. But they don't like we say no to them

That is true.....

Though they say you can pick and choose WHEN to do the uploads.....You'll forever be getting the restarts until they ARE loaded into the puter.  Windows looks for what is missing on each startup and will try and load it if it's downloaded and just waiting....but if you didn't download....then the problems begin.  I'll see what I can find....

You know, I just have that restart thing  :sure: And I'm back.
At least I know it won't do that again until tomorrow :tearlaugh: And maybe not before several days.

I blocked the Windows update, it can look for updates now.
But that restart thing continues. And that even when I'm not yet on the web, and I have activated the "airplane mode". Must depends of something else.

And that "Something Else" is what I'm going to look for.

You can set a time for the restart. I have mine set to restart at 10 at night when I'm off the computer. (I get off the computer around 6 in the evening if I'm not working and 8 if I am working.)
Setting > Update & Security > Windows Update
Look for "Change Active Hours"  Click on the link and it will open up to another tab with the following

Set active hours to let us know when you typically use this device.
We won't automatically restart it during active hours, and we won't
restart without checking if you're using it.

Set your time and go about your work. Just remember to stop your work before the end time is near.
Also, go to the Advanced Option and turn off Automatically Download Update and
turn on "Show reminder when we're going to restart"
Hope this helps.

:ty: but I have prepared the restart option since the beginning... yet the computer always decided to restart during time where I work since the first week I have it. I checked online how to do, in case I made a mistake - no I made right.
But now Windows Update can't update that doesn't matter. And I can't imagine how is the problem for people having the necessity to left their computer working 24/7 during some periods...

My friends at Geek asked me to have you provide me with info on your computer...

Send it in a PM so I can copy/paste and forward it to them.

They want to know how long the problem has been going on, and what the specs are for your computer....and what it has in it for hardware.

There first thought was Win 10 as was mine...but I explained to them that it doesn't make sense that this would happen so often when updates are every other month from Windows....

Thanks....
