You have / had spares, right?  It just switched to the spare and started the rebuild?

Apparently as it was complete when I awoke and none the worse for wear

 :woohoo:

So not knowing exactly what and where to check for further details I am thinking that ye ole RAID array is back to being healthy

You can ask the RAID controller when the machine is booting.  You need to replace the drive that failed so that it can become a new spare for the NEXT failure.

Tis a RAID 10, a stripe/mirror config using four drive and based on what I am seeing it is all back to normal. There is no drive listed as a spare so not understanding your remarks at the moment.

Since the controller shows all drives as healthy and functioning normally.

Well had some fun today with a learning curve. Had ye ole senior tech show me how to program the RGU and deskset remotes for MedCom.

My God in heaven, I sure do understand why he also seems to pull his hair out every time we have to set one of these up for a FSED (free standing emergency department) or hospital.

The good news is I took notes on this config, that I will be able to transcribe into something of use to me so I can assist if needed in the future. Since I certainly do not see myself doing this by myself every time.

Although I sort of, kind of, maybe, can get those parts to talk to each other there is still the matter of the portable radio, repeater and which is the parent hospital to get sorted out as well, and he has those details.

But at least I would be able to assist in the future when needed as long as he vets and checks the works it should be okay going forward.

Had a different sort of fun today as well, called configuring one of those new fangled label making devices. Three hours later I think I got things up to a starting point, multiple downloads of software pieces and then the same for the phone since this new label maker can be accessed from the smartphone too, although as mentioned I am only about half way to what I desire them to look like, so once I get the computer nailed down then I can focus on the phone concept.

For someone that has to deal with tech these little pieces sure do make things miserable. Big concepts and infrastructure, I can deal with .... :tearlaugh:

If I've understood what you were being told by the system, there was a drive failure.  That drive will fail again almost certainly.  The rebuild will mask it because you have redundancy in your setup.   If a drive didn't fail, why was it rebuilding?

This has some comments on RAID 10 and drive failures:

:ummm: Will have to dig further I see ... however I told it to rebuild, it did not do it on its own.

I had restarted the system and during boot up it gave me the BIOS screen and showed a critical error in the array. So I looked deeper and that is how I found the failure. However the drive showed that it was available to be repaired and that is why I chose that option. It completed it successfully so that is why I assume all is good.

However, there is not to much risk since I have two standard drive of the correct size laying about, plus I have an "enterprise rated" drive of the correct size also laying about the place, damn pack rat nature of mine.

SIr Knight that is great stuff for SOP man.   Troubleshooting At Large!   Good stuff.   J ya axed the roight question yu did!  THAT the drive WAS rebuilding, this says there IS a Problem with it.  Mark it and replace it with a new one, the Raid 10 system controller will build it into the array.

Funny, I have repaired many systems with Raid nn in use on them.   Every one has had at least one drive failure every time I worked on them too.  Gave me the thought, perhaps get my redundancy in a different way.  One less costly in the short run.  One that uses ALL the assorted drives space for specific data sets but not in any  Raid configuration.   The results have me using 7 SSD drives internally on SATA3 (6GBps) and backups to BluRay 25 gig disks.   Hey, it works!   As long as I remember to back up said STuff!  LOL!

Ah, so it is not so much a concept of having to replace it right this second, but be prepared to replace it as the odds of it failing again, have risen.

Next question, since I have not open it up recently just how do you determine which drive is which, on the RAID controller it named it as disk 4 was the ailing one, so is there a spot somewhere on the motherboard that names which one is which?

I really didn't pay attention much back then and it has been a while since it was completed. Wow just checked the email chain from way back, and it has been up and running since late 2015 or early 2016 and this be the first hiccup of major significance
