Title: Greetings
Post by: JVRenderer on January 20, 2015, 06:46:00 PM
Firstly let me thank Luffie, J, and Darkangel for setting up this room.
I wasn't expecting a room for myself. I merely want to start a public thread.

Second, please don't regard this room as my personal place. I would love to have all of you participate in these threads.

JV.

I started with Photoshop in 1996. Bought poser 1 in that same year, however, I never got passed running that program the second time. I went on and learned Photoshop, mostly self taught thru T&E (trials and errors), and when the interweb gained popularity, with web tuts and video tuts.
I didn't really get into Poser till 2001 when I discovered version 3 at Daz. I joined Renderosity in 2001 and I've been rendering every since.

I was never classically trained in art, but I did attend a few art classes in college. I attended those classes but never really paid attention. (I signed up cuz I was led to believe there were hot girls in those classes). I won't bore you with the details.

where were we?

Okay.

I don't considered myself an artist. Everything I learned I learned from the many folks at Renderosity, RuntimeDNA, Daz.... and a few others that are no longer active.

I would like to have a place where we can exchange ideas, tips and tricks on how to improve our artwork/doodles/renders/models...

I would like all of you to participate. Let this be a place of discussion, not a place of arguments (I will not name names or places). And please donot make this place an app A vs app B dialogue.

Thank you

When you want to discuss a subject, please start a new thread.

I have a few in mind, I will add as we move along.

1. Workflow
2. Composition 1 (general)
3. Composition 2 (lighting)
4. Posing
5. Rendering
6. Post work
7. TBA
8. TBA

I hope you get the idea

Couldn't agree more....no matter what name is used...a brush is a brush! As long as it serves it's master then that's all that matters.

Congrats on the room dude! Can't wait to see the convo's here...I never pass up a chance to learn new things. Plus...help "TL and J" hijack a thread. LOL

Glad to see you up and running and happy to help.   Your subtopics will be placed as you show them and we'll add the two TBA's also.

I also started with Poser 5 in 2005 but didn't have a machine capable of using it to it's capacity until about 2011. By then I had PP2010, and then got PP2012. As for Photoshop, I use CS5.

There is so much to learn in both Poser and Photoshop, I don't think it's really possible to be a 'master' at either of them...but there are some who come very close to that. Certainly not me.

My father was a commercial and graphic artist, so I grew up learning art from him. Largely introduced to the Old Masters, pre-Raphaelites, Surrealists, etc. Michaelangelo and...pinup artists like Vargas. Lol. My dad loved pinups.

Been painting (with arcrylics mostly) and drawing since I was a kid. Then spent about 43 years as a cartographer/draftsman, both manual and in MicroStation.

Good choice of topics!

I was forced into computer use when daughter #1 started taking Graphic Arts right after high school. She had to have a ocmp for school and photoshop/poser so we got it for her...at that time PS was free with the mac...LOL

I would do house chores or be at work then when home would play on poser with book, yup self taught here too. then when she would get home from her class I would show her how to do things. she caught on quick. The next year I got her CS2 and a better computer so we have had the poor "smurf" since 1996...it sites in the other room ignored.

I ahve done the try it and see thing in PS too and even managed to mask the item once---that is the operative word...once, and no matter what I have not done it since...no idea why.

Now about your room in here...if you need to have sub categories ( not threads but other rooms for filing) for your room just give me a yell and I can set up as many as you need/named as you wish...like the freebie area where Aelin plops her freebies she finds.

Not much going on here.   Hm.   I like "creative".   I think, for me anyway, #1 on the list of Workflow has to be Inspiration.  Gotta have the Want To sure.  So that coupled with some inspiring thing gets me looking for something to put it down on.  Paper, clay, sand, computer.   Ok got the PC running, so I use Photoshop some, Paint Shop Pro X a lot, Poser Pro 2014 or 11 a lot.  Also have a bunch of other 3D type programs.  Vue 6 Infinite I use a good bit too.   Also have a bunch of modelers which I need to get interested in using.
Lots of scenic stuff gets my attention.  With or without people or even animals.  But will have vegetation in it.
Well there's a start.
