Seraph or Djinn? (for Cardinal Biggles)

You inspired me :D Thanks!

The word Seraph comes from the Hebrew word 'saraph', last I knew. The word literally means 'fiery serpents' or 'the burning ones'. Both conjure images of something celestial that burns brightly in the sky. Or maybe lava flows crawling across a surface like burning serpents. They had a name in Akkadian - Mushushu Dragons. Or were those the Djinn?

The Middle east is full of petroleum 'roll-fronts'. A roll-front is where a deposit of oil, petroleum, asphalt or uranium has risen to just below the surface and can be tapped easily. OR, could potentially (in the case of the petrol, asphalt and oil) surge to and break the surface. At that point, it can be ignited by lightning or the stray spark of a cooking or smelting fire. Whatever's exposed and some beneath will then burn, traveling across the exposed petrol, oil or asphalt veins in the earth. Added to that, are the above mentioned ' lava snakes' of legend.

Maybe they were both comets or burning asteroids or burning seams of oil, petrol or asphalt. Maybe they were aliens in gold lame suits. I don't know.

The djinn were said to be made of 'smokeless fire', as were the Seraphim (plural for Seraph). Whatever they are, they're rather fascinating.

Djinn was named by his father after these entities and their tendencies to be 'good' or 'evil' or even amoral; spontaneous in unpredictable ways and his 'fiery nature', as well as his love of dancing. Think of this as his spirit.
