Absinthe Fire

Absinthe Fire
Oh, the little kiss of the Green Fairie;
A delightful taste of fire on my lips!
She's a frolicking mate with whom I tary,
As I swallow a tiny little nip!

Rhyme by L. Cleveland Major

There is a myth that Absinthe causes hallucinations, which has been believed by many for about 100 years. That myth has now been determine to be untrue.

In many countries the liquor was banned after a man inebriated on Absinthe had murdered his entire family. What was not as well known about that case was the fact that he had been on a heavy Absinthe drinking binge for about 4 days, prior to his crimes. Now of course Absinthe was blamed for his deeds; but when a person is that far gone on any liquor, the blood has been super saturated with alcohol, which could have been inbibed from practically any alcoholic beverage. It was just the misfortune of Absinthe that he was drinking it. As stated, several governments in the world made it illegal to possess in their country, all due to that one case. Now, however after a little over 100 years, it is once again a legal drink in most countries, including the United States of America. Scientific research and testing can be thanked for that.

Now what do you suppose the nickname of Absinthe is? "Green Fairie!" And so I thought, why not do a render in honor of a delightful drink, and submit it to this contest gallery. And if you are so inclined, have yourself a taste of Absinthe, while perusing this and other images here. Who knows? Mayhaps you will have that ever elusive hallucination that was once attibuted to Absinthe, which I am going to call the "Absinthe Fire!"

To answer sidherose's question: No, I've never had the opportunity to try Absinthe. I got my information from research I found online, which I did just for this image project.

Absinthe in Europe, where it was invented had a very high alcohol content and a high 'thujone' content from the wormwood it's made with and that is a toxic chemical. The thujone content has to be under 10% in the US in order to be saleable legally. Have you ever had absinthe? It's definitely an aquired taste
